Thanks for the explanation. I have only one series D lens (the annoying 28-200) and to be honest, my best photos so far with the D100 have been with manual focus AI lenses and just guessing at the exposure.
I am considering getting a wide angle D lens someday. Just haven't found the right deal yet.

How do you use the histogram to determine the exposure? <P>
Thanks!<P>

With so many new models of digital cameras being released, will there be any chance of getting these serviced three years down the line? <P>
Camera makers focus on novelty<P>
Junko Hayashi Bloomberg News <P>
Casio and the market leaders Canon and Sony are releasing new models at a rate of as many as one every 20 days to sustain profit margins in the $11.6 billion global market for digital cameras as customers demand smaller, cheaper units and sharper pictures.<P>
Meanwhile, slumping prices and parts shortages have forced Olympus, Fuji Photo Film and Nikon to slash sales forecasts, sending their shares plummeting.<P>

Hi! If you have uploaded outdoor photos to photo.net that were taken
with a D100, would you be willing to include a link or url to some of
those photos?
I'd like to see what others have done with a D100?
Thanks!

Here's a pic I took today. Note the reflections under the ice berg.

I made some changes, went to Large image size and tiffs instead of JPEGS. That seemed to make a big difference in the image quality.
<P>
Thanks for the advice!<P>

Thanks for the advice! Here is my latest photo at the lake.<P>

It has been photoshopped a bit. I just can't seem to get a good snow photo.<P>
On this day, it was overcast and not much light, so I wasn't expecting much.<P>
Image size: Small (I know, I know)<P>
200mm Aperture priority<P>
1/350 @ F11<P>
Exposure comp: + 1.0<P>
ISO 1000<P>
White balance - auto (I was experimenting with the different settings)<P>
Auto mode: AF:S<P>
Tone comp = normal (what is this?)<P>
Color mode: Mode II Adobe RGB (Is this the ideal one?)<P>
Hue Adj: 0 (what is this?)<P>
Sharpening - normal (I know, I know)<P>
Thanks!<P>
Friendly advice always welcomed!<P>
PS: One the way home I told my hubby that I wanted to photograph a deer on the way home. Surprisingly, I did spot one in the woods and he was still while I photographed him. However, there was just too little light and to many branches between us to get a usable photo.<P>
But I did get to see the deer!

Nikon shares dive 11 pct on digital camera woes<P>

TOKYO, Feb 10 (Reuters) - Shares of Nikon Corp <7731.T> plunged 11

investors with a quarterly loss and a downward revision to its
full-year forecast due to soft digital camera sales.<P>

Sorry 'bout the large photo.
All I did in Photoshop was reduce it and save it at quality level 3.
Here are the settings used:
Image size: Medium
Lens 28-200mm @ 200mm. (This is my only series D lens.)
Aperture priority
Multipattern metering
1/500 sec F11 ISO 200
White balance: flash (whoops!)
Color mode: 1 (sRGB) What is the ideal setting for this?

Do the off-brand lenses have the D technology feature?
-
Thank-you! I saw that one of them used the odd batteries and assumed that both used the same size.
Thanks for the great answers. (as always!)
-
I've been reading the SB-50 and SB-80 info at Amazon and it seems to
hint that these flashs used an unusual size battery instead of AA's.
Are these batteries for the Sb-50/80 dx available in a rechargable form?
I'm rather bummed about their battery selection since I just bought a
bunch of rechargable AA's.
Thanks!

Hi Friends!<P>
I ran across this webpage yesterday:<P>
"Join Nikon technical representative Jason Stewart, in a seminar based
on the Nikon D100 digital SLR. This seminar presentation will denote
the key features of the Nikon D100 camera, as well as explore the many
workflow options that the D100 incorporates. A "live" demo will be
performed using he Nikon D100 with the NikonView 6 and Capture 4
software."<P>
<a
It looks like I won't be able to attend this seminar, but perhaps
there are more seminars like this one in other locations?<P>
Does anyone here have additional info, schedules?<P>
This event is different from the Nikon School events.

Thanks!<P>

Are rechargable batteries available for the SB-50DX?

No, I just thought I'd share this article about a D100 user.

Do the Tamron and Sigma lenses offer the D technology features or is that a Nikon only thing?
-
Thank-you all for the wonderful replies. I appreciate it.
<P>
I have another question - my Sb-28 (sadly, not a DX) doesn't seem to maintain contact with the camera well enough. I can tell when this is happening because the film speed indicator changes on the flash when it isn't making contact with the camera properly.
<P>
Besides tightening the flash mount (tried it) what else can be done for this problem?
<P>
Thanks!

Does the DX still use AA batteries or something else?

>Why do you ask anyway, taking a poll for someone?
I've been getting great responses from everyone here and I think these discussions are helping a lot of people, including newbie lurkers and others.
My situation is that we don't even have a Nikon dealer anywhere near us so this is how I'm discovering Nikon accessories, cameras, etc.
Wish I had asked the questions I asked here recently before making a purchase.
BTW, my fav Nikon accessory is used on my Coolpix 950.
The flash bracket.
I used it with the SB-28 flash to photograph my church while it was being built. It could light up the entire auditorium (which is fairly huge.)
Thank-you everyone for your wonderful replies.
Feel free to add to this list if you remember more accessories to recommend.
