Excessive sharpening.

You lucky devil! I have all his books and I never would have guessed that he used a P&S for his latest one. I thought he was a Leica man, but obviously he does not care about the equipment.
-
Wow, I thought it was set up! Excellent if a candid.
I do not see anything sad about it. Movies are supposed to engage the imagination. If he had been watching reality television ...

Thanks, Margaret. So who's talking behind my back??
That Zelan certainly has a lot of pictures in his portfolio! I am not quite so prolific. I looked at one or two folders and I have to say our styles are quite different. He is closer to what is conventionally called street photography. I think I am closer to the NG aesthetic.

I think the texture detracts because it looks fake.

It does not look desperate to me, just simple. I have seen people living happily in such conditions. In any case, this is a first-rate photograph!
-
Looking back, I think Maxim intentionally left the chest partially colored. Maybe he wanted it to look unfinished, like the relationship that never got off the ground.

This is the kind of picture that makes me wish I was there. So where is the rest of the series?

The lighting is clinical. Use softer, warmer light. The drape is not doing you any favors either.

Andy, to me that is like saying photographs of women should be airbrushed because they don't like being photographed "as they are". I see nothing shameful in this photograph.

I bet Steve was just trying to diffuse the tension. It is a very grim subject, after all.

Hahaha...now I get it! Too bad the light was not in your favor; it seems FootLocker gets almost as much attention as the man.

I fear they thought I would present their country in a bad light by taking such pictures. I don't see anything negative here; I hope no-one else does, either.

It is supposed to suggest vulnerability, Frank.
-
No. Toning would inflect the mood. His expression is neutral, so I want the color to reflect that.
-
I thought much the same about going B&W. It was pretty monochromatic to begin with.
Two more coming up...

No polarizer. Wouldn't that make stitching more difficult, because the polarizer's response would change as you rotate?

I do not remember for sure, but I definitely did not use HDR. I might have exposed separately for the sky. The only thing I remember is that I spent too much time evening out the exposure variations because I forgot to use the same setting in the RAW converter for all the images. It is not worth it, I tell you! Either use an HDR stitcher (like Autopano) or put up with the quality hit (from using the same exposure).

So I was wrong; it is aired three times an hour.
-
Forget that, it's playing at Cannes three times a day. I should hire Dennis as my publicist for my next film (are you in?)

My pick of the portfolio. I really like the warm highlights; please do not clone them out. The title is gratuitous, though. In any case, the typeface is not appropriate; you need something with a bit more austerity and authority, to match the man's demeanour.
