  1. Simplicity: a huddled mass of little buildings set in a large landscape which looks like it suffers long winters. You've created a composition which speaks to harsh winters and short summers. Congratulations. Judy
  2. But don't eat them!. These denizens of the forest are very poisonous,

but they are incredibly beautiful and colorful. They arrive in autumn here

in SE Alaska. These were growing under forest cover at the edge of the

waters of the Inside Passage of SE Alaska.

  3. I haven't heard that. I just see them spawning in the streams. Don't know how this year's returns compare to other years. I'm sure that will be reported at the end of the runs. You'll probably hear as soon as I do. I know there was grave concern due to the heat and shortage of water in the streams. I believe that was an expression of fear rather than an actual result. We're getting plenty of water now.
  4. Fall comes early to the backcountry of SE Alaska. Sunrise warms the

saturated, muskeg swamps in the highcountry, causing fog to rise in

response to the rising temperature. It's a quiet time of year, as fall

settles in. Bears fatten on spawning salmon, and wolves call to each

other across the peaks and valleys.

    Deserted Island

          1

This is a much more typical view of our island than any sunny shot

you'll see. Shrouded in clouds and rain, it is not beautiful, but it is

solitary and quiet. Rose hips ripen in the chill, and waves, beaten by a

southwesterly wind, are the only sound you hear on an early morning

    walk.

    Inside Passage

          3

Rare, calm, and balmy morning along the Inside Passage of SE

Alaska. "Tube fog" lays heavy in the passes of the mountains of Prince

of Wales Island, twenty miles west of our island, and filtered sunlight

bathes our world in an ethereal glow.

  5. Nice to find you onboard, Mike. Your shots of Skagway and the surround are unique and incredibly beautiful. I've enjoyed a slow journey through your portfolio and am looking forward to seeing more of your work. Judy from Ketchikan

    Gold Creek

          1

Diligent gold panners still are rewarded for their work in the sands along

this roaring, glacial-fed stream which gains its particular color from its

origins high above Alaska's capital city of Juneau.

    Devil's Club

          1

Known for it's stinging spines as well as it healing properties, Devil's

Club spreads it's umbrella-like leaves to the sun filtering through the

    rainforest canopy.
