  1. I am not sure what you mean by "the aperture does not seem to change". In camera the aperture will always show as f/1 while the camera will meter depending on how much light the sensor receives. With f/1.8 lens it will most likely overexpose, which you can pre-compensate with exposure to -1, -2.

Can you be more specific in your description?

  2. I only had the older version of it 90/2.5 and optically it was superb. Quite easy to use and it produced excellent results. I wanted to have longer lens so opted for Sigma 150, Tamron would've been my next choice.

  3. Just tried it, (John, thank you for the link), and it looks mighty cool. The interface (or rather buttons placement) does look different, and in fact with Edit List redone completely. It almost reminds me of aperture.

So far I like it that D2X modes can now be changed on the fly. I like Quick Fix also, with curves, exposure compensation, and other functions in one place. And it also does not hang! Which can only be a good thing :).

Well, we will see. I wonder what price Nikon will put in front of it, or if there will be an update for existing users. The program looks very good so far.

  4. In Critique forum, I can give comments by clicking on ">> Contribute a critique"

link. When I open the image and click on the "Critiques" link (between Details

and Rate) nothing happens. Is this a bug or is it something different?

    Thanks,

  5. I had '0' problems with D200 and '0' problems with D300. I see many somewhat provocative posts (and from the same posters) at dpreview but usually ignore them - they reveal nothing. As this cuckoo, who just touched the big camera in a strange light,

And will continue doing so in *any* forum,

Did not pay so much attention to Nikonians, but from what I have seen many posters had just bought their first digital cameras and expect wonders. The site name "Nikonians" sounds legit, so what not post there? The answers do usually point to the obvious - read the manual.

As for photo.net, I think the mood and overall atmosphere here is very fine. I like the idea of having technical and artistic discussion on the same site, and that perhaps prevents the real trolls and fanboys from finding audience here. When there is problem (or confusion) I see the threads do not remain abandoned and the responses are helpful. Can't complain.

  6. Email forwarding never worked for me, although photo.net alerts seems like coming through just fine. I already mentioned email forwarding in this thread, I sent few emails to myself and never got any back,

The spam folder is also empty.

When I have time (maybe tonight) I will change my forwarding address and see if it makes difference. I can live without it but I must admit @photo.net email (especially when about photography) is (would be) a nice feature to have.

  7. Ronald, could you elaborate on why you were not happy with 10/20 Sigma? I read different opinions about this lens whenever I come across them. Seems like people either love it or hate it.

  8. When viewing individual images in folders there should also be buttons "next->"

and "<-previous", if more images exist. It is somewhat cumbersome to

undo->undo-> ... to go to the next image. Just a suggestion (and wish).

    Thanks,

  9. Would it be possible to automate the EXIF to show under each image? I see the

"Equipment" fields under my images are empty. If I add information manually the

format may not always remain the same, and it will definietely not be the same

if I look into the others galleries. Also the repetitive tasks should be done by

    computer, not by us. :)

    Thanks,

  10. Be careful about ITO coating, D3 is not the same as D200. You might want to read Thom Hogan's article on the subject,

    http://www.bythom.com/cleaning.htm

I wet cleaned D200 once (just to get over that fear of cleaning), it was fine, but could also be tricky. When holding camera upwards you may in fact collect more dust than you remove. The best solution I have tried so far (on D300) is Arctic Butterfly from Visible Dust. This is how it looks,

    http://www.momentcorp.com/review/arcticbutterfly.html

Generally dust is not much of a problem, but it can be annoying when (or rather after) shooting macro, since the aperture is usually stopped down.

  11. It depends on which lenses you have and whether they are worth of the new camera, but if I were you I would just get a used D200 instead. In some places you can probably still pick it up as new. It is an absolutely lovely camera to have, and your lenses would be used to the best of their potential. Again, it depends on which lenses you have.

  12. I would rename forum "Olympus" into forum "Four Thirds". I think forums should

not be named after the brands, but should rather be named after the mounts.

Also, Panasonic cameras share the same mount (Four Thirds) as well as Leica. I

think it would bring more people in, which can only be good thing.

Just a suggestion. Wonder what the others think.

  13. I would not advice to convert NEF fiels to DNG. It is my only opinion, but I do believe Capture NX is an ultimate tool for Nikon files and, very unfortunately, once converted to DNG there is no way to go back to NEF. Please someone correct me.

  14. Tripod is a must, but I would not worry about filters. And if you do decide to buy filters then I would try them out first, before going on the trip.
