Also called a "cast net", or "throw net". I used these all through my childhood. Nice photo!

And to think... you used your lens to give us a glimpse of something as it existed 2.5 million years ago. The camera lens as a time machine :-)

The focus on this image is beautiful, and it really helps to simplify the composition to just what's important... form and color. A wonderful photo.

What a wonderful photo! The street scene and lighting are spectacular all on their own, but the streaks of wind-blown snow makes this image outstanding.
-
Great wide aspect ratio... it really compliments the composition well. Perfect placement of the horizon and the muted color pallet is beautiful.

Beautifully sharp and detailed. Did you shoot wide open, or did you stop down? I don't see any coma in the stars.
Great photo.

Thank you Mike for the visit and the kind words.

The long exposure creates a beautiful mood to this image. A wonderful photo.

Hi Ross,
This is actually a very well known spot on the Oregon coast and there is a trail that leads you right down into the cave. I suppose those sealions are used to all the people since they didn't seem to notice me at all. A very cool place to visit if you're ever in the neighborhood.

Thank you Ross for the visit and comments.
I know you know this type of landscape well. Yes, it is not a real easy place to hike, but then it's not as difficult as the Scales on the Chilkoot... which you know all about ;-)
Cheers,
Mike

A great series of photos in this folder Ross. You have documented the railroad and my "backyard" beautifully :-) Thank you for sharing, and I look forward to seeing the newest images soon. Hope you got the e-mail I sent you a couple days ago.
Best for now,
Mike

Very beautiful. The low perspective works so well in balancing the focal point in the sky. A stunner.

Thanks for the visit Ross and the kind words.
Yes... I got the e-mail and I hope you got my reply. Let me know if not and we'll try again.

Stunningly beautiful! The pastels complemented by the softness from the long exposure makes for the most wonderful mood.
-
A stunning image to be sure. Great use of the grad filter to balance the sky and landscape.
-
A stunning image, but I too have to cast my vote for removing the color. It is not needed and is only a distraction from an ortherwise beautiful image.

Ross,
I'm so glad you've had a chance to visit this area and especially hike the Chilkoot. The Ferry ride up here is spectacular... I have done it a number of times from Bellingham (and have camped out on the deck). The Inside Passage is one of the scenic marvels of the world, and I just hope we don't destroy it as we have done everyplace else (there are forces at work as I write).
Next time you're up here, please look me up... drop me an e-mail and I'd be happy to meet you and show you around... or you could show me around :-)
Thanks for documenting this beautiful area in your photos.

I'm one of the few who live here year round, and I gotta say that I am NOT looking forward to seeing these monsters return in another month. How I wish more could see this magical area without the chaos and pollution that these ships bring. That being said...
It's a beautifully composed image of my home town. I just wish you could photoshop out the ships :-)

A wonderful photo in every way... technically perfect and what a wonderful story it tells. Great idea and expertly crafted.

The texture in the ice mimics and compliments the veins in the leaf. A beautiful paring.
