1.
thanks Chris...Nice Image!

I have the FD 24/2.8 BL along with the 50/1.4, so, hopefully it will work as well as your 24/2.0

Cheers! Jay

 2.
Thanks JDM

I hadn't seen that particular lens list. I really only need a fast 50mm because I have all the other focal lengths I need in EF mount.

I'm just going to go ahead and order the adapter and see how my old 50/1.4 works-out.

Cheers! Jay

 3.
Hello:

Have any of you used the FD 50/1.4 BL For Infra Red? I'm wondering if it will be prone to hot spots. I will mount it to my EOS M (converted to IR-only) with a Foto Diox adapter (which I have not purchased yet).

My EF 50/1.4 generates a huge hotspot when used on my IR camera and I seem to remember that the EF 50/1.4 has the same optical design as the FD 50/1.4 BL. There could be other causes for the hotspot besides optical design (eg., lens and inner lens barrel coatings).

Cheers! Jay

 4.
I apologize for the "link" not being "live". My luck with posting live links and images in photo net forums is hit and miss.

Cheers! Jay

 5.
Great images from the Canon folk!

I am also an EOS M fan. Mine is now an IR Only camera. It arrived yesterday afternoon from Life Pixel. So, for now, I am just testing lenses for IR compatibility ~ aka hand-held snapshots.

Preliminary tests indicate that the EOS M 22mm/2.0, EF-S 10-22, EF 17-40L, EF 35 2.0, EF 85 1.8, EF 70-200 2.8 USM L (original one), and Tokina 100mm macro all seem to work well with IR. The EF 50 1.4 does not (large hotspot). I still need to do more tests at varying apertures.

I have six images in my flickr, public folder. You can get there by clicking-on the link below. (I can't figure-out how to get an image into this post from flickr).

https://www.flickr.com/photos/toxonophile/?details=1

Cheers! Jay

 6.
Nice to know because that lens hood retails for about $40.00 if you lose it.

Does it not bother you to spend $1000.00 on an Olympus lens, only to discover that you are required to effect DIY repairs on its $40.00 lens hood?

I just thought of a name for this practice ~ Crowd-sourced Quality Control.

Bad PR for Olympus to say the least!

Cheers! Jay

 7.
"Makes no sense. Why buy manual focus lenses in a single-use mount?"

There may be some merit to that opinion ~ for many situations.

I have the "M" with the EF -> "M" lens adapter. I am having the camera converted to IR (it is on its way back from lifepixel). I also have the EF-S 10-22 (and the EOS M 11-22 is available here in Canada), but, both are much slower than f2.0

From what I have been able to read, larger apertures are better suited to IR photography than smaller ones. I will be able to find-out for myself soon enough.

However, the fact that Samyang is making lenses in EOS M mount may be an indicator that a new EOS M camera is on the horizon for the North American market. I like my "M" so much that I would likely buy a new version ~ if it is at least as good as my existing "M" ;~))

Cheers! Jay

 8.
they are available for pre-order:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1051475-USA/canon_9518b002_ef_16_35mm_f_4l_is.html

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1051476-USA/canon_9519b002_ef_s_10_18mm_f_4_5_5_6_is.html

I hope the new 16-35/4.0L is fantastic, because, it is about $460.00 more than the 17-40/4.0L ~ I sure won't be stepping-up. I have absolutely no reason to replace my 17-40. I think it is a wonderful lens and I don't think IS is worth the extra $$.

Cheers! Jay

 9.
Well, I don't know how new they are (I am usually a day late and a dollar short), but there are a few Rokinon (AKA Samyang, Bower) lenses in EOS M Mount that I did not know about until yesterday:

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Lens+Mount_Canon+EF-M&ci=17912&N=4196380428+4091672272

These are MF lenses, but, I find the 12mm/2.0 particularly interesting.

Maybe the "M" is not dead after-all!

Cheers! Jay

 10.
get the lens to go with the camera so you can check-out the camera (AF, metering etc) to make sure it all works as designed.
Cheers! Jay
