Jeffrey, Gabriel, Diana and Richard - thanks for your encouragement. This was one of those rare moments, the woodpecker simply ignored me while I floundered around in two feet of snow and I had about half an hour to capture nearly 300 photographs. I think the woodpecker was female - she was till pecking away when I left. Regards, Tony

Jim, this is beautiful. And inspiring. I like the sharply focussed but simple foreground and the fabulous colours in the rising sun. Regards, Tony

Mike, this is a lovely picture - I sent the link to my daughter. Well done. Tony

Vandana, thanks for the nice comments. Actually 'Roe' is totally wild, I just happened to find him posing. Generally I don't treat the wildlife. If I had a chance to take this picture again I would have overexposed by one stop to cut the noise level. Thanks everyone for your support, Tony

Pamela, you have some terrific photos in your portfolio. I especially like the depth of the colours. My first impression was that they were generally not very light. Possibly that's my bias, but I thought I'd try lightening up this one. See the attached file. Just a thought. Best regards, Tony

Very nice capture. Cardinals have eluded me so far. Tony

Don, you certainly captured the ambience - the picture almost radiates damp and cold. Nicely done. Tony

Murray: I like your composition and the lighting definitely draws one's eye around the tree to see the golden sun on the pastural scene. Enough weeds in the foreground to give it some context. The cart tracks are barely visible - you might try an alternate crop with the tracks leading you into the picture - but I suspect the lighting mitigates against this. Nice picture, Tony ....Oh, shouldn't that be Buckinghamshire?

Standing alone in a field outside a remote Quebec town, I was struck by
the simple imagery presented by this beautiful cross. Any thoughts?
