  1. Seems like it's both. Kind of like a Certs being a candy mint AND a breath mint. I will say it (I-P, Turpin, etc) has been kind of entertaining over the years.
  2. Though a bit dated, this is pretty damn funny. Such drama!

  4. Use the camera in whatever cellphone you happen to be using and don't look back. I haven't used a regular camera in years and still make the photos I like to make, every day.

  6. Every once in awhile a stranger on the street will come up to me with their phone, and ask if I could take a picture of the phone owner and their mate. I always oblige and then make a few of photos of the couple. Then, I look at their phone admiringly, and say something like, "Hey that's a really nice phone. Thank you!" And then start to walk away with it. Always a crowd-pleaser.

  9. Calm down. It can take any path one wants to take getting there, including being moved by artists who inspire. http://citysnaps.net/2015%20Photos/Two%20at%20Ocean%20Beach.jpg San Francisco • ©Brad Evans 2018
  10. An impressionist artist I most admire is Early California Impressionist painter Granville Redmond. He painted mostly poppy and lupine fields in California from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, but also ventured into other subject matter as well. I made this photo last year on my iPhone and processed it to the right color temperature and feeling using the iOS app Polarr. http://citysnaps.net/2015%20Photos/Sheep%20Redmond.jpg Carmel, California • ©Brad Evans 2018
  11. Today...30mm because that's what's on my iPhone. Years ago, shooting with my dSLR, it was a 35mm f/1.4. A nice lens for snagging enough environmental context when making street portraits. And not having to sweat (too much) subject perspective distortion.

  13. For large prints I use Costco. 20x30 inch prints with outstanding quality for $9.99. 16x20s are $6.99. One day turn around off an Epson professional wide format printer.
  14. When people hand me their phone after asking if I could take their picture, I say "Sure!" I then make the photo, look at their phone for a second or two, and say, "Hey, that's a really nice phone - thanks!" And then walk away with it for a few seconds. Always a crowd pleaser...

  22. I've never worried too much about camera details. They all seem to work fine. I just shoot with my phone. Maybe someday when cameras come loaded with curiosity, imagination, life experiences, reason, skill, ability to feel, etc., I'll pay more attention.
  23. Ability to conjure/release narrative, mystery, ambiguity, emotional pull, hidden elements/information, connection if a person is involved, environmental context if appropriate, gravitas, heft, etc, just to name a few, and depending on the subject matter.
