Taken in the palace of Versailles, I was really drawn to the floor patterns and I enjoyed the people that populated the scene. In particular in this image I have a gathering of men, of all ages, playing all sorts of different roles. The grandfather and child were present all the time I was shooting but when the male couple came into the scene, it really came together. I had quite a lot of time to think about the main design of the image so was very careful to make sure that the light was hanging centrally and matched up with the mid line of the door at the back. I do have a composite with a darker exposure I could use, but prefer the high key effect.
Black and white conversion to focus on tone, as the colour story wasnt important. -
Although the sky was pretty uninteresting I decided to take that idea even further and go for a high key effect using the sky as a stark foil to the rock shapes.. its one of the few times that I have made an image looking back at the rocks from the waters edge. I must do it more often

Hi
I find it very difficult to find anything remarkable and inspiring about this image. The composition is visually confused and muddled. The narrative is unclear. I do appreciate that the message can rely heavily on my cultural background for its foundation. A muslim woman walking with her family obviously a different cultural background to the lady in the bikini. A rather hackneyed idea that doesn't come over that well either ..your idea may be too subtle for this capture as you cant make out what really is going onl
There may have been a stronger narrative ...to show the muslim women in the sea.. having fun, enjoying life .. if you could have got a sullen woman in a bikini in the scene that would have made a interesting twist... hey sorry I am talking about an image that doesn't exist.. but i am just trying to make a point as photographers we can usually find the story we want to tell if we are patient enough.. not about representing the status quo but finding a story that represents our ideas or bias...
This image represents the story you wanted to tell but from where I am standing (I don't know which end of the elephant I am holding.. see earlier posts) it doesn't say very much to me.
okay there are lot of posts.. i don't normally post .. I suppose the elves chose it because its so easy to add your 2 pence worth .. doesn't make it a good image though.. -
Hi
I find it very difficult to find anything remarkable and inspiring about this image. The composition is visually confused and muddled. The narrative is unclear. I do appreciate that the message can rely heavily on my cultural background for its foundation. A muslim woman walking with a mobile phone with her family obviously a different cultural background to the lady in the bikini. A rather hackneyed story if that is the story you are trying to tell

A lovely colourful image provides a good black and white conversion
opportunity.

People liked my original but I had a comment that they would like it to have a greater
feeling of the night. I realised that at night ones colour vision is reduced so I darkened
and very slightly desaturated the original. .. I think this gives it the night feel I was
looking for

Taken during the cambridge folk festival, I was on the look out for
colour and interesting shapes with a festival twist

Taken during a shoot for a friends aniversary party, this little girl
was a great subject

Taken in the holocuast memorial, these stark monuments provided a
haunting element to the image.

The icelandic volcano dust contributed to the yellow sky, almost
looking like a tabacco filter had been placed on the lens. Taken
before sunset the golden light shimmered on the wet rocks, I hope the
water movement provided a dynamic element and useful textural
counterpoint to the solidity of the rocks.

The last of the last was shimering on these rocks on the shore. I
liked the complimentary shapes of the rocks in the way they kind of
dove-tail together. The 'idea' of the two rocks are then echoed in the
distant rocks on the horizon.

I loved the simplicity of the colour in this stairwell. I distorted
some of the elements in the scene to add a very subtle 'Dali' element.

Taken in a local garden.. I liked the wierd positioning of the door

This effect was created in camera by using a long lens and shallow depth of field, then shooting through the top of grave stone which partically obscured the rose, the high key effect was created by using a shutter speed that kept the whites of the granite stones brght white. The harsh lighting did the rest.
I tidied up some distacting elements with the clone tool.
