    Thank you Trine,

I have not looked at his for sometime, and i see that i forgot to correct the horizon leaning about 1deg. to the left.

I am glad you like it.

  1. Outstanding!!  I love the clouds.  Curves and linear geometric contrast between and among fields and road allow me to see scene in many ways and perspectives;  right and left brown/yellow accents to greens are a nice touch too.

Overall, I am not pleased with this  image, especially the more I view it; particularly in the left background, cropping to edge of rock just left of tree would not compromise image; there is too much sky; I was sloppy with shadow toning along the mountains. and i forgot to check critique only box.

Thank you niki and PJ.  a little glamor glow and texture could turn this into a respecable faux painting of this ancient, gnarled and twisted creature looking out from a place so high where few survive (this is just above the tree line)

Mark I intend to get the early morning shot this weekend; late afternoons here are oftentimes known for lightning specticles and cold rain and hail.  Yeah, Ansel Adams, I keep working on it -- my favorite is Rose on Driftwood.

Neil and Carsten, I'm glad you bothfind the composition pleasing. My focus of attention was getting a good exposure on the old tree's needles from the center to the right to minimize post processing of shadows, and to take advantage of the scene's  natural flow and repeated forms.  No HDR, Carsten -- CS5 Extended (try it -- content aware fill, rule of 3rds cropping -- really helps me, ACR lens profiling and perspective adjustment, create 3D planar to add depth and relief to 2D -- not used here, and a lot more stuff I have not used yet)

Thank you all for your generous comments.

Carsten, thank you, I was lucky to catch that light hilighting tree while offering the dramatic background; lasted for only a second; and  --  that's how the trees lean.

What I notice is what appears to be "stressed" lighter shade greens in left foreground, but magnifying the raw file reaveals very subtle light and shades.

    Thank you,

    niki and Jim,

So, Jim if you got some time may be we can shooting together.

This was taken 6/6 I wanted to experiment w/ portrait mode panos, but the wind was awful; not so bad at Summit Lake or by the Chicago Lakes overlook.  I was up here last weekend too over by Lake Abyss, with 2deg. wind chill.

Next weekend I 'm going to try the hike from Guanella Pass to Lake Abyss.

Well, I'm finding that LAB has its place, mainly for fine and subtle curve adjustments and fine HSL in A and B.

I have not tried Viveza in LAB yet -- I wonder if it LAB->RGB->LAB, rather than not changing modes.

I like Viveza's use of control points, which select by color instead of just an area.  So many adjustments can be made to selections  in one operation, which can be a smart object.  My favorites now are: structure to blur or sharpen with tonal contrast;  hue, saturation and brightness (HSL) adjustments.

As an "all-in-one" tool Viveza is really good.

Sliver EFX Pro -- strength adjustment of filters and color response of film types are a much better implementation than PS -- PS seems to add noise when cyan is decreased, I have not seen any noise artifacts in SEFPRO.

I always use extreme adjustments on these kind of tools when using for the first time just to see what the effects are.  With so many adjustments within tools results can be interesting -- using HSL adjusments in Viveza for B+W
