No I did not. I used the filter all day. It was a rainy cloudy day..... perfect in other words for this kind of shot. The filter also gave me longer exposure times. The blur around the rock in the foreground was due to the turbulent water finding its way around the stone in combination with the longer exposure.

I agree....about the fighting and the other thing. I'm beat right now. Think I'll just lay on the couch for a while. Now to the photo. I like it very much. He looks worn out and as though he's seen better days. Focus and DOF are top notch as well as the out of focus elements which add to the overall story of another rutting season in his harsh life. Also color works very well here. The colors of the grasses and background are important in this image. Very well done Alf. It sounds like you worked hard for this and in my opinion you were rewarded with a great shot. Speaking of shot........ you know it is hunting season here in Montana now. Not that I would... but he better keep his head down.

Another one of zillions of shots of Avalanche Creek in Glacier. Thanks

OK......One more from Jerusalem Rocks.....thanks for looking

Great shot Scott.......

Very nice. Three simple elements....rock, water, and sky all come together to create a dramatic image. That foreground crack looks like it could give way any second and creates a sense of danger one feels when he stands on the edge of a cliff.

Nice shot Walter. Not an easy one to get.

Nice vibrant colors and excellent composition. Nice and sharp too.... I like it.

Your right about the backlit colors Tony. I also like how you used the shadows.

I like all the water drops and the nice bokeh. Good job Philip.

Wanghan.... Thanks very much.
Pedro...... nice of you to say.
Robert....... I'm glad too. I was focused on finding these particular rocks but I'm sure there are other nice shots to be had. Thanks for commenting.
Pekka....... Thank you sir.
Lester..... Glad you like it. I think there are many other possibilities for some nice foregrounds. Might be interesting with some snow in the mix.

Really nice color and texture in the rocks and good timing on the wave action too.

Joseph Tury lives....... Was happy to see your name rise to the top of my friend list recently. You haven't been around much lately. Good to hear from you. This is a great place to spend a day. No trails.....just wander around in all the strange rocks. Thanks for the comment Joe.
Raymond.... thank you sir.

We have this in our area too. (Montana) Not the same name but a logging competition. Climbing trees and chopping off the tops and other events like this. It's fun to watch. Nice photo Joan.

Thank you Stephen. I saw these particular rocks in a photo I found on a stock agency web site. I had given up finding them on the Saturday I was there and shot a different foreground with an unimpressive sunset. While I was shooting I recognized that spire in the upper right over my shoulder and found these soon after, too late to shoot. I spent the night in Shelby and hoped for a nice sunset Sunday. I was stoked when the sun went down. I looked for this spot last year too but couldn't find it.

Stephen... no HDR here. I've experimented with it but it just never looks right to me. I did use a 2 stop hard edged grad on this one. The sky was getting pretty bright so the grad gave me a little more exposure on my foreground than on the other. This is a fun area to shoot with a lot of possible compositions so I imagine I'll keep going back from time to time. Thanks for your comments.
Pierre... Thank you sir.

This is actually a blend of two consecutive files that turned out pretty good for me. Sometimes I forget that I shot it that way and then overlook it when I am sifting through them later.
