  1. Are two very different lenses. I own a black Jupiter 9 85/2 (pre war Zeiss Sonnar 85/2 clone) and i love it very mutch. Is an ultra classic portrait lens, with a very good sharpness in the central apertures while is soft at the wider apertures; is very good for portraits of classic taste. If you love a vintage image renditions, with the just grade of sharpness and contrast for classic portraits, is a good and cheap choice. Need an LTM/M adapter (Voigtl䮤er or Marumi 28/90 adapter).

The VC 75/2.5 is a modern ultra razor sharp lens, with high contrast at all apertures. In the portrait shots is a little bit harsh, specially with the modern films as Velvia. Need an LTM/M adapter (Voigtl䮤er or Marumi 50/75 adapter).

    Ciao.

  2. Is a very good lens, with outstanding sharpness and contrast, but lack a classic Leica bokeh and tridimensionlity. You can see the Summarit lens tests on the Erwin Puts and Roger Hicks web sites.

  3. The Leicameter MR4 is a good tool. The real problem is the battery (PX625 mercury oxide 1,35 volt, longtime outlawed). The MR-9 adapter, made by Kanto and selled by Criscam or The Small Battery Company, don't fit with the Leicameter MR4. One solution is Weincell MRB625 1,35 volt zinc air battery, but is pricey. The PX625A 1,5 alkaline battery is good for negatives but is wrong for dias.

For me, the better solution is the SPX625 1,55 silver oxide batteries. Have the same dimensions of the original PX625 mercury oxide 1,35 volt and work very well with all types of film, properly changing the ASA setting.

However, if you have Leica IIIf and Leica M4, the best option is the Sekonic L208, because have both new and old scale of shutter speeds. This lightmeter fit with the accessory shoe on the camera and permit both incident or reflected light measurements.

  4. I have the silver chrome Nikkor LTM 85/2: is a very excellent lens. Also the LTM Nikkor 105/2.5 is excellent but the 85/2 is better for the 90 mm lens framing of the Leica M3 VF.

The Canon LTM 85/1.8 black is also exellent but is more rare than Nikkor.

    Ciao.

  5. My Leica CL is converted for the PX625A alkaline 1,5 volt battery and work properly. The conversion isn't expensive and the PX625A are cheap and long duration.

The zinc air cells for hearing aids are very cheap also, but dead after few months (even if the camera is non used).

Another good solution is the MR-9 adapter, that permits the use of very common and cheap 1,55 silver oxide batteries.

    Ciao.

  6. The new Leica M lenses, not only the Apo and/or Aspherical but also the new Summarit 2.5, are ultra very razor sharp and contrasty but with a less interesting bokeh and tridimensionality. The old Leica M lenses are very fine as sharpness (but non as the new lenses) and have better bokeh and tridimensionality. I prefer the old way.

    Ciao.
