Hi, dear friends.
I own a gorgeous Summicron 50 mm f/ 2 Dual Range. Can i mount this lens,
without his goggles, on my Leica M5? In other words, the rear bayonet of my
Summicron Dual Range is compatible with the particular metering system of my
Leica M5?

The lenses for the Minolta A/Sony Alpha mount don't have the aperture ring, therefore don't allow the stop down metering whit the 4/3 cameras.

Few months ago, i have purchased for 50 Euros (around 35 bucks) a CZJ Flektogon 35 mm f/ 2,8 MC in M42 thread mount, in mint conditions. I have shoot a Sensia II roll, with this lens, on my Bessaflex TM, at the historical palaces and churchs in Lecce (Italy). The results was very stunning, beyond every expectation, in sharpness, contrast and colour rendition. Ciao.

The Carl Zeiss was born in Jena, eastern Germany, in twenty years of the XX century, by merge of a series of pre existing factories (IKA, Goertz, Contessa Nettel and many others). After the III Reich fall, in 28 June 1945, few hundreds of Carl Zeiss Jena techinicians, engineers and specialized workings, plus their families, escaped from the soviet controlled zone towards the american controlled zone. They estabilished the western Carl Zeiss in Oberchocken, near Stuttgart, while the technicians and engineers who remained in Jena continued to work in the Carl Zeiss Jena, in the same pre war factories. The two parent firms was both existing since 1961, when a court of justice recognized the right to use the Carl Zeiss trade mark only at the Carl Zeiss Stuttgart. From 1961 to late '90 the Carl Zeiss Jena lenses was named CZJ or Aus Jena for the western markets.
The lenses made in Carl Zeiss Jena from 1945 to the end of the production (late '90) are true pre war Carl Zeiss optical projects. Not too modern and perfomer as the western Zeiss lenses, but very good also.

Issues? What you want tell really? I don't understood.
I only can tell that my Nikon F100, the Nikkor AF D 28-105 mm f/ 3,5-4,5 and the SB28 (all acqired in 2000) work perfectly in every conditions.
The last 9 June i have shooted with F100, 28/105 and SB28 with Sto-Fen Omnibounce, 6 rolls at the concert of the italian "Deeper Band" (one of the most famous Deep Purple cover band in the world) with Jan Paice as special guest: all the bargain have worked very fine.

"Made under license from VEB Pentacon" is written on the lens barrel. In the last life period of the VEB Pentacon, immediately after the Berlin wall fall, the same VEB Pentacon was made under license some lenses from Cosina or Sigma brands, with some of the most widespread bayonet lens attachments (Canon FD, Olympus OM, Nikon AI, Minolta MD, Pentax K eccetera) but the true CZJ lenses remained those realized in M42 thread mount (Flektogons, Pancolars, Tessars, Sonnars).

Hi, Cliff. With The Nikon F100 the standard focusing screen is the Brite View III B type. As alternative, there is only the Brite View III E type, with horizontal and vertical grid lines (very useful for architectural shots and/or for faciliting the third rule comnposition.
The K3 focusing screen of the Nikon FM3A is absolutely non adactable to the Nikon F100. If you want the split image rangefinder, see the Beattie Intenscreen catalogue. For the Nikon F100 there are available four different focusing screen types.
MODEL 82172: simple ground glass Fresnel with an horizontal big split image rangefinder. MODEL 82173: same to the Model 82172 with plus verical and horizontal grid lines. MODEL 82174: simple ground glass Fresnel with an 45 degree oblique big split image rangefinder.MODEL 82175: same to the Model 82174 with plus verical and horizontal grid lines. These models of the Beattie optional focusing screen are famouse for their enormous more brightness, than the Nikon models. See the Beattie web site for more info.

Hi, Kerry, best wishes for you purchase. In contrary, i tell "never sensor cameras"! I'm joking... I follow the development both of the digital DSLRs and rangefinders, but i still use the film cameras and will continue for many years, because i have more feeling with the film technology. I find the digital photography too cold for my taste.

Hi, dear friend. I own by many years the last version of the Leica M2 (my model was builted in 1962). Effectively, the Leica M2 was released as economical version of the Leica M3: particularly, the Leica M2 have an external frame counter, coaxial to the shutter release/winding lever. The frame counter is manual zero setting, also. Nevertheless, the Leica M2 was choosed by many professional photojounalists and street photographers, because the frameline in the finder cover the 35, 50 and 90 mm, the most used focal lenght in the reportage photography. The finder is very clear and contrasty, in pure Leica M style and the build quality is same to the Leica M3.

I also own the Summicron 35 mm f/ 2,8 with goggles for M3, that i mount on my Leica M2 and Leica MP. Also i find that the Summaron is a great lens. I suggest you: don't alter the original Leitz project. The risks are high and the lens lose in value.
