I would not buy a grey market of such a high priced item. No matter what they say but you will not be able to have it serviced by NIKON services. At best it will be serviced by store technicians. So even if the camera has no technical differences before first service/repair, after the one all bets will be off. IMO, if you need to save the money and definitely want this camera, than only for $200 more getting a refurbished one directly from Nikon USA for $2,899.96 is a much safer deal.

My point of view is completely opposite to Stephen's -
Do you real need that $250 - $300? Is it going to change your life? But this picture is very unique and may change the outcome for who ever is going to use it. So if the Harpo Studio wants to take advantage of this unique picture than they should pay for it. They definitely can afford it.

John, please excuse me for my post but something doesn't make cense to me - if you are John Miller with 25 years of experience and you have shot such great pictures, than why are you asking now some total strangers (who may have much less experience than you) what equipment to buy? I think somebody with your expertise and experience should give advices to others. Would you tell us what equipment you have used before to make all those great pictures and why are you changing it.

Hi Jane,
I can't contribute more to this issue than the others who have advised you to seek the help of the attorney.
However, if you had asked for the advice before the shoot or if you are planning to have more pictures of you taken in the future I would like to offer you the following tip:
As a paying client hiring a photographer you should create your own contract spelling out what the photographer has to deliver for the money that you will pay. Better yet, find the photographer to do the 'work for hire' for you - this way you will own your pictures and the copyright to those pictures.
