  1. So...My 4 month old D70s bit the dust a couple of weeks

    ago...blinking ERR...

I sent it priority mail on March 13th, and they just got it fixed

and ready to go to quality control yesterday. (it was a broken

shutter) I probably won't get it back till this weekend or early

    next week.

Is it typical for in warranty repairs to run 2 plus weeks? It seems

like every repair thread I read in the last few months were 1 week

or less turnarounds. Not complaining too much just curious.

    Cheers, George

  2. In 1977, I was a high school senior, a budding photographer, and loved my 35mm Canon. The Canon wasn't my first choice, but on a part time income working at Brown's Chicken it was what I could afford. And then the worst thing happened, some lout stole my camera out of my locked locker.

There was a camera store down the street that I had develop my film, and the owner (Mr. Moore) knew me. I went in to look at used cameras and he asked me why I was looking so sad. I told him my story and he said, " the right camera is so important to the photographer" and he said "if you could have any camera what would it be?" I said to him that what I wanted and could afford were two different things, but as long as we were dreaming If I could have any camera, I would choose Nikon.

Mr. Moore disappered behind the counter, and brought out a box and handed it to me. I opened it and inside the box was a brand new Nikon FTn with a 50mm 1.4. I gasped and said Wow, it's gorgeous but I can't possible afford it (at the time I think it was $700+). He said "pay me when you can, take all the time you need".

So, I thank Mr. Moore, for my favorite camera, Nikon FTn, and my favorite era, the late 1970s, when I was learning photography.

  4. Hi Soumya,

    Thanks for your kind words

The Bus picture was created by shooting with a fairly slow shutter speed1/20 second, thenwhile the picture is being taken you zoom from wide to telephoto

It is the zooming action while the picture is being exposed that causes those streaks in the picture. I will say that the 18-200mm VR Zoom Nikkor really did help out in this case. I had the camera set to shutter priority 1/20 secand when I saw the bus rolling towards me I simply pointedpressed the shutter and zoomed in to the busThe Vibration Reduction did help steady the action.

I am quite pleased with the lens.

    Thanks again and happy shooting!

  5. Hi Lex,

Thanks for sharing about Stewie...I don't have pictures but I spent 10 weeks living in the Ronald McDonald House in 1991 to be close to the hospital after my daughter Rebekah was born 10 weeks early and weighing 2 pounds...Children getting sick always tears your heart out.

  6. actually...I did take the lens off f22...but that isn't the problem...

I called Nikon Tech and they had me do a hard reset...it didn't help...so it's off to Melville!

    Thanks, George

  7. So I was out this morning taking some Nature shots...I had my Sigma

    300 2.8 on the D70s mounted on a tripod...lining up some floral

    shots.

I pressed DOF preview...it stopped down, then when I released, the

camera opened back up but the metering stopped, and the camera

    reads "ERR" blinking.

Anyone know what is going on? I have switched lenses, and no matter

what lens I change it to, ERR still is there. The 300mm works fine

    on another body.

Thanks, George St. Petersburg, Florida USA

    2 month old D70s btw...never dropped...

  8. Hi Wayne, Nope no postal pad but I do have the backpack straps.

My plan would be to carry 2 digital bodies, a 60mm Macro, 10.5mm Fisheye, 12-24mm, 50mm, a 180mm Sigma Macro, a 300mm 2.8 Sigma, and 2 Sigma Teleconvereters, plus assorted lens hoods etc....my real problem is the 300mm...I didn't want to carry the seperate Tele Case.

In this months Shutterbug they mention the Airport Addicted Bag...a bit pricey but looks like it would be THE bag for Air travel and alot of equipment.....

  9. As far as I know....you can use Nikon lenses on Canon bodies but there is no way to use a Canon lens on a Nikon body...beacuse of the external bayonet mount on Canon bodies, a Canon lens wouldn't be able to extend far enough into the Nikon Body even if a mount was concocted
  10. Most of us who live in the State of Florida have to use the State

sponsored Homeowners Insurance Companies...I just found out that My

Homeowners policy does NOT cover any of my Camera Equipment. They

won't even allow a rider to be purchased. I always assumed that my

equipment was covered. (I no longer shoot professionally)

Before I join NANPA, and buy their Equipment Insurance deal...does

anyone else have any recommendations for stand-alone policies?

    Cheers!
