1) Initially when I switched to film, I was lazier. Now I press the shutter release much less frequently to minimize the number of images I must sort through on my computer. Having the instant check on the camera's LCD screen is a great advantage.
2) No. Digital has allowed me to become more involved in photography and therefore more conscious of what makes a good photograph.
3) I have a very large film inventory, but I was not shooting then with the focused approach I have now. Admittedly many of my film shots were family & travel snaps, but this statement still applies.

Our CSIs use Canon 40d bodies with a couple of lenses, one being a macro with 1:1 capapbility. An external flash is a necessary accessory. Also factor in the cost of extra memory cards, a spare battery, and a case.

I try to critique in a manner that I would want to receive on my own photos. If there are positive aspects to an image I try to include those in my comments. I typically choose photos for critiquing that I believe I can offer valid suggestions for improvement. For those images that are lacking a reasonalbly interesting subject, I might simply state, "What are you trying to convey with this photo?", similar to Mike's comment above. I have also found that by semi-regularly critiquing others' photos, I have developed a sense of self critique while shooting my own.

Mart is absolutely right. Check the terms and conditions carefully. Getting accepted into a juried show or an online competition is also something that looks good on your resume'. Win or not, it's at least some recognition that your work is of interest.

Ben, anyone pressing a shutter release on a camera is a photographer. Those just starting out with an entry level dsr can aspire someday to become a condescending pro such as yourself.

All of his books have received very good reviews on Amazon. I am hoping to receive one or two as Christmas presents. I took a workshop from him this year and he definitely knows his stuff.

Thanks, Josh, and no worries. I know you are busy.

Is there a moderator for the ImagePro help forum? I posted a question on the 6th regarding my ImagePro pages and have not yet received a response. I know staff have been very busy with recent changes and this is not a critical need, but it appears that no one is monitoring this forum for ImagePro help (?).

Cristal,
Our club is about 40 people with only about 15 entering photos, on average, in each of our 5 competitioins per year. We are limited to 8 submissions per competition, 2 max per category.

We do only digital with projection. Judging is supposed to be a learning experience and, although some of our judges are relatively impartial and constructive, some are lacking. I also wish for more time to discuss the photos with other members.

I recommend checking out Harold Davis' star trail work. He's a member here and he has a website devoted to this subject and he, with another photographer, teaches a workshop on this subject.
