1. "Blasted" no, schooled in a frank, educated and truthful way, yes. It seems "mate", you can't handle the truth...
2. No, I've never found this to be the case. If one looks at this very simple RW lever reset mechanism, it will be very easily identified as "Excessive wear or failed lubricant"...
3. Wow, so in order to test speeds you've removed the DSLR sensor (you obviously didn't) that's in the way of the shutter block? So your home-built $30 single sensor tester (maybe good enough for a leaf shutter) constitutes a specialized shutter tester? So the stepless auto speed system and its adjustments (which requires a 3 sensor Auto Tester <<< click), are the same as the Manual Speeds? Sorry, but I feel strongly that you've ruined one or two perfectly good Nikon FE2 bodies chacing problems that weren't there. There's simply too much to explain here; I'll need to restate :"learn some common sense & technical theory"...

5. Incorrect. For all film M's, this is only true if there's a malfunction (Excessive wear or failed lubricant). When engaged to rewind, the RW lever must stay horizontal no matter where the advance lever is in its cycle; once moved (advance lever), the RW lever should instantly reset/pop-back to vertical...
6. "Surfer VW Pick-up" - Shot with Leica If & 15mm Voigtlander
7. Okay, so it's true: This "gold screw beneath the DOF lever" is in fact a very sensitive adjustment. Focus closely on resetting this factory set item. Before you started all this, you seem to be very concerned about the manual speeds. Why the concern? So what 'kind' of a shutter testing device are you using & relying upon for these concerns and activities? For displaying accurate readings, a highly accurate and reliable hyper-speed vertical traveling shutter, requires a pretty specialized tester...
8. "would change anything"? I know that in your ill advised 'teardown', you likely touched mechanical 'settings' that should not have been touched. i.e The Distance switch screw under the DOF preview lever - Usually turn it clockwise to shorten high shutter speeds The VR's are there for fine tuning the adjustments. Now, the meter readout accuracy is one (VR) adjustment; so logically if you have more that ONE VR, then the others handle other things. ID your VR's; don't you have more than just one to adjust? Of course you do (See picture). So much to learn: Make sure you're grounded - Always mark your adjustments - Have a 3 sensor shutter/Auto tester etc. etc.

10. Maybe not more often, but definitely requires more critical & careful service procedures. As to "pre-war" reliability, the quality & design are robust enough to do its job. But shutter accuracy is another matter. With the many modifications produced by the Leica company in their introduction of the Leica IIIc, they tackled high speed tolerance hold & adjustability (Bearings and eccentrics added). 3rd party flash mods certainly didn't do it any better than Leica's solution to the "flash" question. As a result I have a policy of refusing modified LTM units for servicing (Why hassle with someone's bargain attempt at mod'ing for flash useage).
11. Oh My ! wow and yikes. You basically took the proverbial 'engine' apart in order to conduct a simple oil change... Talk about making things more difficult; a perfect example of "a little bit of knowledge is truly dangerous". All one needed to do was to clean the 2nd curtain magnet, and if the Manual or Auto speeds were still off, turn the appropriate adjusting VR's etc. Dude, do yourself a favor and acquire a service manual. You obviously have the drive, but you'll need to learn some common sense & technical theory...
12. No, they're not appreciably different from the last model (IIIc) prior to the Leica IIIf BD. The 'new model' IIIf, added a cleverly designed speed dial and top-plate that accommodated the flash needs of that era. But this 'piggy back' (add-on) mod, did add to the complexity and later to *performance ageing issues. *A service C L A became very critical to sustaining proper high speed tolerances...
13. I too reacted with trepidation as I clicked on Tony's name; so sad. He will be terribly missed. My condolences to his family, may he RIP...
14. Definitely what John S. stated. Unfortunately this thought process is tantamount to correcting the timing of an untampered with old school engine, by jumping crankcase gear teeth instead of simply moving/adjusting the ignition distributor assembly...
15.
Your camera unit may be an earlier unit; but battery cap should still be the same.
Sorry for the lint on the battery cap.
I'm particularly proud of the still intact "West German" rubber eyecup...
16. Yup, my most visited forums have gone virtually silent... Still no answers from the 'powers that be' on my concerns for past archived postings and reviews. Good luck with paragraph or line space attempts; preview doesn't always turn up as final draft (Yes, I tried "Enter" twice & < p >). Plus everytime I log in, where I was last viewing requires travel through a maze to reacquire my spot of interest. Also, I see that my "Cover Photo" is always lost and needs to be be reset...
17. I have one in great shape.
It's in a showcase right now, so I'll need to pull it out and shoot some images for you.
If I can figure out this cra*py new Pnet 2.1, will post them shortly...
18. I kinda provided that feature here: Vote on Pnet version <<< click
19. You're not kidding. In this latest Pnet incarnation, the few forums I follow have gone utterly silent. :eek:Glen Palm has yet to address any of my concerns. No wonder that most traffic seems to be in the problem/complaint categories. BTW, this traffic also shows that I'm not the only one who has requested a refund of their paid subscription (12th year for me). Will the "parent company" allow/survive this apparent death spiral ?
20. Talk about messy rollouts, void of common sense and needlessly complicating things.
Look - We made the top ten ! 21. "So I asked for my money back for 2017-18 and anything else I can get. I would recommend this to anyone having problems - vote with your wallet" decandido Agreed, if they can't make *old links work in "Google" or even from my simple website, then I stand shoulder to shoulder with "decandido" in formally asking for a recently paid subscription reimbursement. * "Your connection is not private" and "404 Page Not Found" How hard is it to allow old links to access archived Pnet pages? You know, like rangefinderforum.com did when they modernized their website ! Finally, good luck getting new & younger visitors to pony up experienced technical input or monetary contributions...
22. I've been a paying & contributing subscriber for over 12 years, my most recent Dec payment is likely my last. That said, I believe that I may have been one of the few contributors that introduced a high volume of new photographic enthusiasts to photo.net. Many signed up and others just followed links I provided to recommended threads of interest. Needless to say, this site's attempt at copying the crowded field of predominantly photo displaying websites, has caused many of my business referral links & reviews to be trashed. As a result I've stop pointing/linking folks in this 'messy' direction; not only has it turned unprofessional, but add to that a complete embarrassment...
23. Lifting up in prayer the loved ones he left behind. I do believe in what the Bible teaches, that Tom is in a much better place; RIP "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" Revelation 21:4
