1.
I'm expecting to have a baby sometime in Feb 2011. So perhaps like all new fathers I want to be able to shoot video. I don't own a video camera. I realize with any canon video slr setup I will need some sort of external mic.
So I am faced with a certain conundrum:
Sell my 50d in hopes of getting enough money to put towards a 7d.
Buy a t2i and use it primarily as a video camera.
Buy some yet to be determined 1080p camcorder for ~$1000.

In general I prefer to only carry one device with me.

What should I do? What would you do? I'm not even sure what kind of resale value I could expect on the 50d.

 2.
Eddie Manuel -

Is the "hassle" of shipping worth $9000 to you? Because that is how much money you are throwing away by buying from your local store. Their stuff is remarkably overpriced. Just compare prices with b&h or adorama! Everything will still have the same Canon warranty! You can still buy an extended warranty if you want it.

This may sound trollish, but quite honestly you would be a fool to waste that much money. Even at 20k it is such a waste.

 3.
I find that your images are too big especially for most laptops.

Remember a laptops vertical screen resolution is only about 1080pixels, account for a task bar and browser window that really only leaves you with a usable screen area about 900 pixels.

Scrolling to see an entire image is never fun.

 4.
The 40d, like my 50d, is fully capable of producing outstanding landscape images. I have a 24x36 print that looks perfect that I did with my 50d and 10-22.
Is the 5d a better camera than the 40d? Yes, but it isn't a better camera for landscapes if you are losing your ~16-28mm coverage that your 10-22 provided if you make the move.

I shoot all of my landscapes at iso 100 at f7.1, with a tripod if necessary.

 5.
I own Photoshop CS3 and Lightroom 2.3, I rarely use CS3. I use CS3 for stitching photos and HDR, everything else I do in lightroom which is 99% of my photo work.

Lightroom is intuitive and easy to use. Lightroom is worth more than $300 to me.
Just remember to shoot raw so you have more options available to you to fine tune your image.

 6.
If a retailer has a price that is 10% or more less than any of the above (B&H, Adorama, and Amazon) it is likely a scam. Still follow Henry Posner's advice and check out resellerratings.com for any retailer he considers buying from.
