Hey Michael. This is well done. The texture adds to the effect of watercolor paint. I am guessing this is the effect you are after. Appears to be a full moon on a beach dune somewhere. I like it!
  1. Derrald. I was refering to this image as being too light on the bottom half. It appears a little washed out. If it was only slightly( 1/2 stop) darker in the reflection compared to the upper half it would work so much better. The thing about split grad or merging two exposures in photoshop is that the process can give the photo a surreal appearance which is to be desired. However, if it is overdone, it can show. They always say 2 aspirin can be good, but 10 probably won't. I love your portfolio and think you have a gifted eye. I am just sharing an observation I hope you feel can be helpful. As well, if you care to give some back, visit my portfolio and let me have it if you would like.
  2. Its quite beautiful indeed. The shadow across the mountain adds to the impact, creating additional contrast. The two rocks in the foreground make a great starting point for the eyes to venture further into the image. If I was being judgemental, I would say that the reflection of the shadow in the water is lighter than the actual shadow on the mountain which has a slight un-natural appearance. I don't know if this is a product of two exposures merged in photoshop or if a split-grad was used. I noticed a couple of other photos in your portfolio that had the same affect. This I believe is very minor considering most viewers would not percieve this. I would still rate this 6/6! The color makes the image memorable. THANKS for sharing!

I can see the graininess as well, but I still find the photo speaks to the viewer. It really gives scale and dimension and you can feel the highness of this perch.

I would be picky if I pointed out the horizon not being level. That is just minor, I feel good about this otherwise. The depth and composition is exquisite.
  3. This is quite intense. And the blue snow I feel is a bonus. A drawback might be the lack of depth in the foreground stalks, but I am assuming the exposure and bright sky probably affected your choice of f-stop. The upper 2/3 of this shot is a complete winner.

I am not a regular critic of portraits, being a landscape shooter exclusively, but I had to complement this photo because of the rich colors. I think this shot is quite flattering for your girl.
  4. Combining the downstream cascade with the falls is a popular and effective composition choice. The exposure is spot on. I may have tried cropping the upper part and including more of the foreground, but that would only be personal preference and not criticism. Lovely capture!

I love this moment. She is bummed and its obvious why. She probably had her picture taken prior to the event when everything looked perfect. I truly feel for her and you have communicated well with this!

    A slow leak.

Compositionally good and a peaceful scene indeed. I would like to see this brighter by at least a stop. That,I believe, would give the water a silkier appearance and bring out more detail in the rocks. Hope this is helpful.

I,ve found that a more difficult aspect of butterflies is keeping everything sharp on the subject while blurring out the background, i.e. controlling depth. Here is a splendid example. The plane of the butterfly is parallel with the film plane making it tack sharp. The lighting is perfect. It is a FINE capture!

What gets me about this is that the average photog like me would have to point the camera at the sunset scene. There is a different skill you posess that enables you to look away from the obvious and find something more compelling. Great eye!
