    Thanks Guys,

For me it's one of my best - Only because not only does it seem to typify my style, but it ticks all my own boxes. It's sharp, it's tonal and she looks fab.

    Thanks again.

I see the 3/3 tossers are about today.

This is a great photo which is clearly above average by any metrics.

I love the angle and the surrounding folliage.

    Brilliant.

    kind regards,

I've used Noise-reduction techniques to flatten areas as this would be

    too cluttered a shot without.

Let me know what you think.

I took this shot today (and hope that the one-legged man doesn't mind

    being the subject).

I hoped that the jetty provides a road into the shot and that the

    thirds rule works as intended.

Let me know what you think.

    kind regards,

I decided to avoid using flash for this shot so that the ambient

colours would be allowed to flourish and help to enhance the atmosphere.

At 1/15th sec, Madison needed to stay fairly still.

Let me know what you think.

    kind regards,

    Paul

beyond beautiful. What an exceptional shot. If you wanted criticism in an effort to improve it - you will get none from me. Sorry. Best I've seen for ages.

Oh good. My most-feared enemy looking me in the eye. I want to give this 1/1 to annoy it. But that would be unfair on you.

Well done. Nice capture - something I simply couldn't do. There would certainly be some camera shake. :0)

Great DOF and nice central composition.

    Well done.

i like this - enough so that i have just been to your portfolio and find that I liked other shots too. Enough that I recognise (and have already commented upon) one of my favourite shots on PN; the one with the little guy in the headgear.

    Wonderful.

As for this one, there is some grain but there is nice DOF and I like the composition and colour.

    Well done Mohamad.

    kind regards,

Having quite recently posted a shot of my daughter Madison which i knew was out of focus, I find myself warming to those people who are brave enough to post photos which aren't particularly sharp. Sharpness isn't everything - especially if this wqas the desired effect.

i love the movement and feel that these are sometimes the hardest shots to get right.

Some of the shots in your gallery contain harsh shadows but as this was (I suspect) not taken with a flash, those shadows have been replaced with nice tones and some movement. An improvement in my eyes.

I see in your 'biography' that you don't consider yourself to be a photographer yet.

I'm certain this is untrue and your gallery prove this to incorrect. You have submitted some really good work.

I'm not a fan of abstracts but the children shots are good.

Well done and thanks for rating my latest posting.

  1. You seem to have more nature where you live...

This is a nice sho using thirds appropriately.

I have a similar effort after the sun has 'yellowed' the bale. I wonder what the shot will be like if you return.

I like the colour and the composition. Well done.

IMHO, I believe this to be one of my best captures but I would be

interested to see what you think. Let me know.

Well it's not scoring well but i consider this to be one of my best efforts. I am particularly pleased with the look and feel. The sharpness, the tones, the crispness, etc.

I could crop it vertically but the horizontal composition adds to the atmosphere. It also gives me the space to create a vignette which focusses the eye on the subject.

I'll try it on the Portrait forum to see if it fairs better.

    Thanks guys.

    Great shot.

    On the plus side:

Beautiful child, great eyes captured beautifully, nice pose - looking away from the camera, nice composition.

    On the minus side:

Slightly out of focus on a shot that I think it was supposed to have.

Plus, slight untidiness jumps out of the screen to me (its my own particular hangup) and now that we can ork in teh digital domain, those slight annoyances could be tidied.

Hi Michael, nice to hear from you again.

It was achieved on purpose - I had the flash with me but decided I wanted a more naturally lit shot (even if it was by a paper lantern).

I asked her to stay as still as possible and she obliged.

I realised though that whilt the shot would undoubtidly be soft, I might get lucky with the eyes, which is where i really wanted the sharpest elements of photo to be.

I think it worked, though when I look at my latest effort with the flash and whilst I wanted something more modern and sharp, I can't help but like the sharp one more.

    Odd.

i don't think I made the font big enough. ;0)

My friend, and fellow PN'er told me off fo the same thing recently - maybe I'll start listening soon.

I should either just leave it blank or come up with one of those dreadfully contrived titles.

    Thanks for your comment.

Les - I agree. I don't know why I seek approval in this form. I just feel sometimes that I need to get across that it was planned, so as to head people off at the pass with their "It's out of focus" comments.

    - I have seen people put essays in their description saying what they were trying to achieve - and i hate that. It doesn't really give much room for comment.

Plus, no one gives that much thought as they look through the viewfinder.

Thanks for your comment. I'll try to stop planning ahead.

1/15th of a second usually ends in disaster. Worth it if everything is still though - and for this 1/15th sec, she was.

    I am thankful.

This was taken without flash (so as to achieve nicer skin tones) and

this has resulted in soft (obviously) finish.

It was taken at 1/15th of a sec and requires the stillest of children.

madison was kind enough to try.

I think the result is nice enough to post. Sharpness is absolutely

everything to some - but I have seen some incredible portraits which

show that focus is not important at all. The shot evokes a feeling - I

hope in the case of PM viewers it is a nice one.

let me know what you think.

    kind regards,

    Paul
