    "The Watchmen 2"

Dean. I just visited your portfolio. Wow you have some awesome images there. Some of the alien stuff reminds me of H R Giger's work. I am really liking this 'western' themed series and as a child of the seventies the Star Wars stuff is great, although I thought the second one wasn't up to the standard of the others, the stormtroopers looked 'too' added to the landscape, if you know what I mean. Wish I'd seen some stormtroopers this summer when I was in Drumheller.

Nice shot along with the others you've posted like this, they have an old style feel about them. I like the torn edges and the tinting, effective for these shots.

Not sure what I make of this character though, he seems cobbled together from various genres (maybe that's the idea?), cowboy, special forces/ marines, 18th century pilot.

Anyway regardless they are good shots, I look forward to seeing more, you could certainly develop a good series here. Are they a band or just some friends?

Cow is too central, try putting the subject off to one side or up in the frame a bit. A faster shutter speed would have frozen the cow, it looks slightly soft on my monitor.

I'm not sure what's the greater crime, the garbage or putting your camera in that garbage! Good documentary shot though, maybe you could crop out the person just creeping in on the left and the car on the far right and straighten it up. The blur in the bottom right is distracting, I assume it wasn't to pleasant to get down for this shot. Well done.

Nice eye contact with the cat. The brick wall behind is UGLY. Was it possible to zoom closer for a tight head shot? When shooting in zoos I always try not to show any signs of captivity (i will still label them as captive though). I'm suspecting that this was shot through glass as the right half of the image is blurring out a bit. Otherwise the tiger is in a nice pose with good strong eye contact.

  1. Well done for getting so close to this bird. The image is spoilt by all the branches and twigs in front of it and the out of focus one in the foreground. Do have any shots without the branches? Sometimes it is best not to take the shot and wait for a better view.

The actual building looks cool. The picture could be improved by including the ground to show the size of the building and tighter cropping that will exclude the sign on the left and what looks like the next building on the right. I take it there is some sort of ugly display in the front that is why you cropped high up, come back, if possible, in the early morning before they open or an alternative would be to grayscale the image, but if you where attracted by the colours then that wouldn't work. My thoughts.

Very serene and quiet. Good shot. Though I do agree with Dan that your name is too big, it draws the eyes away from the image and so defeating the purpose of the picture.

Picture is good use smaller text for your name.

Nice tree but your framing is bit tight. Loosen up your framing to include the ends of the branches or go in closer for more detailed shots of the ice. The idea is there, it just needs refining.
  2. You have a nice shot here, but it is leaning to the right. The two towers on the left look as thought they are falling over. Easy to fix in PS. The colours and exposure are good, no tungsten orange glow. I think that if you used a longer shutter speed then the vehicle lights in the foreground would be longer and the vehicles woud be less noticible? Anyway I think it's a good shot, but with some adjustments it could be made a bit better.

Nice light and colours and use of flash in the foreground. I would certainly clone out the dark blob in the middle left (but you already knew that). A nice capture of an often photographed subject from a different angle.

Hi John, you have the potential of a good picture from this location. There are some nice lines running across the frame, try and utilise these into a more graphic pattern. Including some sky with white fluffy clouds would also help. Otherwise a good shot.

  3. Great shot Ian. I love the subtle pastels and the receding layers of hills, and theres enough detail in the shadow areas to see the houses. Is it stitched in PS or from a panorama camera?
