Wonderful portrait - very clean and pleasant to look at - wonderful colors and composition, and I love the way she looks right into the camera- it would lose most of its effectiveness if she was looking somewhere else- thanks for sharing it with us -

I love it! What a great expression and a great use of the close-up. I really like the dark side to the right - great to see something out of the ordinary for a portrait and the feeling of love really shines through this image - thanks for sharing it with us!

Nice job with the color and focus (I love the depth of field on the floor in the foreground and the wall in the background,) but you may want to watch what is happening in the background a little more carefully. The table (?) and the lamp are running through your product and distract the viewer from the most important thing in the image - the product. The background objects do form a nice diagonal, but it might be better if they weren't right behind the corner of the box. Nicely crisp and clean image -

After scrolling through all of the portraits in the list I kept coming back to this one. While I appreciate Mark's evaluation of the image, I feel quite differently about it. Any time an image jumps out from the crowd as this did, I find it is usually worth examaning.

I think the texture surrounding her, both on the walls and floor, really enhance the subject. They complement her cloths and hair very well, and even her sitting position. The loss of detail on her arm and hand don't bother me as they do Mark, because they fit the stark nature of the portrait. To me, much of the portrait's impact comes from the stark, no frills light that we imagine coming from a window to her right. I love the strong lead into the subject's face provided by her arms, and the foreshortening Mark talks about I feel adds to the image by making her seem distant and more isolated. Her expression is cool and aloof, and that foreshortening enhances that feeling for me. She has a thousand yard stare that goes right through the viewer. The hands, large and thrust into our space, give me the feeling she isn't timid about who she is or how she feels. The composition, to my eyes, is very dynamic, and would suffer from a more standard portrait pose.

In part, your portrait stands out because it breaks standard rules. but more importantly, in doing so it takes full advantage of the possibilities this allows. I think it is a wonderful and most memorable portrait - one I would would be very happy to have made. Of course, that's what makes photography so interesting - every one has a different take on each image, and if they generate discussion, they must be doing something right. Thanks for sharing it -

This is wonderful - just a beautiful portait, and I love the way you handled the brightness around her. The catchlights and her pearl earrings are great, and her expression looks right through you - just great. The only thing I wonder about is the green in her hair-ribbon - it draws my eye away from her face, and I wonder how it would look without it? Just nit-picking here, it is such a lovely portrait - thanks for sharing it with us-

Wow! Perfect in every way - what a great feeling you have created here with your subject - the depth of field really adds to the image - just wonderful!

If that's an accident, hope for many more- it's great - the eyes remind me of those blue glass spheres they used to put in gardens. Nice composition - the silver really adds punch to it-

Wonderful! What a beautiful portrait! Her eyes and her hair are just great, and I love the square format and border. One tiny thing is the electronic box in the top right corner of the image - if you were not against such manipulation, I would take it out, but just nit-picking here- I love it-  Thanks for sharing it with us-

Excellent image - great black and white work and wonderful composition - very nice treatment of a simple subject matter. I really like the steely nature of the rough machining on the tines and the ends of the tines - most excellent!

  1. These three images make for a wonderful set of photos. I love the texture and the seductive feeling it adds to the series. You also have many other lovely images in your portfolio - glad I saw them and thanks for sharing them with us!

  2. What a wonderfully strong portrait of what I imagine is a wonderfully strong, not to mention, beautiful, woman. Your portrait really brings out a sense of grace, strength and serenity for the viewer. Funny how seldom we see profile portraits like this. Your image makes me think we have all missed something very important! Thanks for sharing this - very inspiring!

  3. Wonderful! Quite a stunning portrait, not only because of the model's looks. She really grabs our attention with her stare. I think what really makes it work, besided those georgous eyes, is the hand on her cheek balanced by the hoop earring - really great. Thanks for sharining it with us!

  4. A very nice portrait. I love the composition and the vignette and you have captured a nice expression on the model's face. It might be interesting to see how the image would change if the model's right leg were less bright, as it tends to draw the eye away from her face. Very nicely done however, and thanks for sharing it with us!

Very nice portrait, and a wonderrul mood you have captured. It's nice to see portraits of children caught in reflection as you have here - something beyond the normal smiles we usually get (nothing wrong with smiles, mind you, but there are many more things going on in a child's head that should be captured!) I love the tones of the image, and of course, the beautiful eyes. One thing I was wondering about - how would the image look if it faded to a complete black by the time it reached the right side of the image? I wonder if it would balance the compostition some? Just a thought - a wonderful shot though, and thank-you for sharing it with us-

What a very touching image - I think it is just beautiful - a wonderful addition to your family album. There are few images that can compete with this interaction between a mother and her child. Thanks for sharing it with us, and I look forward to more work in the future!

Yikes! This is the type of image that could keep me from sleeping tonight! Without knowing its background, I would just be terrified, and I guess to be honest I would have to say that even knowing about the poor animal, I see it more as a masterpiece of advertising work for the next horror movie blockbuster. Spectacular black and white work, a very powerful image, and I would add more but I have to go lock my door...
