Hello All,
I wish to buy a cheap FX wide range zoom covering 24-28ish at the wider side to to 200-300ish at the tele( no shorter than 200) for my Nikon D700.
I presently rent a 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6 VR. VR is not important for me but the zoom range is.
I'm thinking of buying a 2nd hand Nikkor 28-200 D or G. Of the D and G which would be better? Can you suggest any other lenses by Nikon which will deliver good quality pictures with the D700 ? Any recommendations for 3rd party lenses?
Thanks
Somak

Though Fuji has stopped production, try Fuji Reala 100 while it is still available from old stock.

If possible try to get a new focusing screen through Ebay, might cost you around 30-40USD. Otherwise try to live with the (dead) fungus. Kill it with a strong prolonged dose of Ultra Violet radiation.
Such enclosed UV sterilizers are used in barber shops for sanitizing their clips, scissors etc. You can find one at Chnadni area maybe, but don't expsoe yourself to UV.

I recently used a velvia 50 lot expired in 2005 but kept frozen since then . The developed slides were fantastic as usual.

Ooops! didn't see it is already posted :((
I've read somewhere that The point of interest is considered to be at infinite distance when its distance from the focal plane is 200 times the focal length of the lens(in cm.). So, 'infinity' varies with the focal length of the lens used.

FOCAL LENGTH INFINITY(FEET) INFINITY(METER)
20mm 13 4
24mm 16 5
35mm 23 7
50mm 33 10
100mm 66 20
200mm 131 40
300mm 197 60
400mm 262 80
500mm 328 100
1000mm 656 200
etc.

I think Nikon's matrix metering doesn't work well with a red filter, use CW or spot instead

Search for photo labs US statewise and let me know too if you've found something special
http://www.acecam.com/labsmenu.html
http://www.bluemooncamera.com/services.php develops 120 film for $4 a roll
(I'm noway related to them)

Many panormaic photographers still use film.

can anyone suggest a photo lab which mounts the slides after processing? So that after scanning I can mount them for projection. So far I came across only this one:

looks like they have reduced the pirce somewhat

Anybody tried Clark labs E6 processing? Cost for a 36 exposure roll costs $3.95 which I think is is a good deal f. I'm so far very happy with their C41 prints. Let me know if you had any quality issues with their slide processing.

I use a Nikon F5, and matrix metering with AF lenses most of the times. The results are just perfect.
For AI-s lenses the CW metering is also aboslutely fine with most type of scenes. Of course you've to be extra cautious when shooting very contrasty scenes like those of sunrise, sunsets etc. But then the spot meter is there to help you.

I recently used a 35mm Velvia 50 expired on August, 2006 and which was stored in freezer . Got it developed last week and as usual the colors came out fantastic. I exposed at ISO 40 and the film was left unprocessed for about a month after it was exposed.
