Jennifer,
There has been a lively and very instructive discussion at RangeFinderForum.com, on precisely this subject.
http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64785
As a consequence, I am awaiting my first batch of Tetenal C-41 kit from B&HPhoto in New York. Lets see what happens !

My apologies. I was trying to post a short url, and (I should have known) it goes through a site. Don't quite know how to fix it !

Jeff,
Here are 2 videos; one showing Stainless Steel Reel loading, and the other, Plastic.
Hope it helps. It gets pretty easy, with a little practice.

I was in a similar quandary, not having tried any Rollei repair person. Then I sent my Rolleiflex 3.5 f to Paul Ebel. He did a complete CLA, and installed a Maxwell screen (that I paid for separately, and had sent to him by Bill Maxwell), and the cost including shipping was $148, and the turnaround time was 3 weeks. I am very satisfied. In addition, like Sherry K. and Bill Maxwell, Paul seems to love to talk, and one learns a lot dealing with him.

I guess he has worked out everything, except for skills as a Photographer. Reminiscent of the Emperor having no clothes. Such a waste of time and (Web)space...

Hopefully not unwelcome on this site. Since Leica and Rangefinder users also
work to develop 'an eye' for images, I thought this would be interesting.
Neither a 'Professional', nor an 'Expert', this is a young man whose pictures on
the Web attracted FujiPhoto's attention in HongKong, and they lent him an F30 to
shoot with. He uses other equipment as well, but his images are nothing short of
Spectacular !

Have you considered a Contax TLA 200 flash ? Tiny, and cute as a button !

Just bought a IIIc, which has a faint viewfinder patch, and the rewind button
does not rotate with winding after each shot,(although the resisitance suggests
the film is winding).
Any recommendations, and how much should it cost ?

Gentlemen, This is so well-timed ! I am on the cusp of making a buying decision as I travel to Costa Rica next month. I had bought an Olympus E500, but returned it when the E510 was announced. I never did replace it , and now wonder if the D-Lux 3 might just do it- small, unobtrusive, and convenient. So, here is the question- Aside from the obvious advantages of a DSLR, will my prints - up to 11x14, look any better or worse with it ?
-
I'm going to be in Costa Rica next month for a week. Have traveled a lot
elsewhere in the world (including Central America), but this is my first trip to
CR. I expect to spend plenty of time looking around and taking pictures.
Any advice on -
1. Is it wise to carry Leica body and lenses (in a worn bag, of course), or any
other 'nice' gear, or is that too flashy/enticing ? Should I just stick with
small, unobtrusive, cheap & old looking fixed- lens Rangefinders ?
2. What are the 'not-to-be-missed' photo locations ?
3. I am traveling alone, am a medium built man in my late 50's, and speak little
Spanish (as yet). I Don't expect to do anything too outrageous or stupid. How
much do I need to worry about street crime ?
4. Any problem with getting film, or should I carry it ?
5. Any shops that will give me serious GAS ?
Look forward to any advice.

Just bought one of these for MF Scanning, but can't seem to figure out how to
get sharp scans. There is no current drivers for Mac OSX 10.4. And I can't
figure out how to focus. I tried sing the Polaroid Polacolor Insight Software
and the Vuescan. Still not doing too well. Can anyone CLA these ? HELP !
-
Ric, I just got (back) into B&W developing.
I bought the HEWES 120 rels from eBay (about $20)and they have the clip you mention. I stick the film under it. Make sure the film is oriented along the spiral, and not against it. But, other than this brand or Kindermann, the plastic is supposed to be easier. I certainly find the latter better since (with the center spindle) one can gently agitate by spinning the reel, rather than roughly "sloshing" it in the metal tank.
Hope this helps,

Just bought a Rollei 3.5 f, and a bit disappointed in the ease of focussing. It
apperently is an upgraded screen, with a grid and central horizontal
split-image, but no micrprism collar (which i usually like in my other cameras).
There is no name on it. Wonder if its a maxwell or Beattie or the original ?
(Don't know what these look like) The previous owner, I believe, had said it had
been upgraded.
The
Would it be worth it to try another screen ? Could the lens be misaligned ? Can
never quite get the image to "snap" into focus with this arrangement.

You can buy it from Adorama, in powder form.

"...suggesting post-coital weariness on their parts, and post-career laziness on the part of the photographer..."
I love that! Very funny, indeed.

They're all pretty scary...in a good way, of course ! (Wink)

Thank you all, for your help. It still doesn't sound exactly like my M3, but then, maybe they all sound a tiny bit different. Any case, I don't want to obsess over it anymore. <Now, if I could only find a mint top and bottom plate....;) >
D30 Gaijin, I did consider sending it to you, but its not ugly yet. Oh. no, not even close; only not pristine anymore.

Dropped my pristine (no longer), black .85 M6. Aside from the obvious injury,
shutter sounds strange- probably new, since I don't recall it before.
These WAV files may help, someone expert enough to tell me-

Between 1/1000 and the sync speed sounds ok.
The 1/30th and 1/15th sounds like this (with a delayed click)

I am trying to set up a small kit for my IIIg and Canon IVSB2. I love the VC
35/2.5 (tho' a bit contrasty), the Leica Summaron 35/3.5, the Leica 90 Elmar,
and the 90 Apo Lanthar. Any recommendations for a small"ish" 50 amongst the
Leica/Canon/Nikkors ?

Well, Asher, Here's a start-

I finally sent mine to John at Focalpoint lens, and it cost $350. Its not here yet but john said its "better". We'll see...

Rollei 35AFM, if you can find one- is another possibility. I took one to S.Korea some years ago, and had difficulty telling whih ones were taken with the Rollei, and which with my Contax RX. Should cost about $250...
