Again, lovely pictures, Trevor. BTW, a question you overlooked in the last thread- what camera/film/scanner ? They are not only wonderfully sharp and beautifully composed, but also impressive are the smooth tones and perfect exposures.
Congratulations...
-
Lovely pictures. Also looked at your gallery. Technically too, they suggest great camera gear and scanning. What equipment did you use ?
-
I think so, Paul. However, the original question that I had raised had to do with whether being photographed represents a greater invasion of one's privacy than merely being looked at.
-
But its his music thats the commercial enterprise. Thats not what was being recorded.
-
Paul, the symphony is a commercial enterprise. The better comparison might be a free concert in the park, where they likely would not object to people recording it on their small recorders.
-
Interesting ! The very issue I have been wondering about some time. Why is it that there is no objection to SEEING something, but there is to RECORDING the same information. What, exactly, is the rationale for that ? I do not believe this has to do with the possible misuses/abuses of pictures by modifying them, or posting them in inappropriate places, etc. - but rather to some other concern about privacy blah blah blah... Maybe someone else understands this better.
-
Wonderful stuff ! I agree its inspiring- something that makes one want to rush out and shoot more images ....but why depressing ? After all, it only means there's room for improvement...
-
Thanks, Raid, but tried all the ususal stuff- changing batteries, changing film, turning it on/off with various buttons pressed, flash on etc. No go so far !
Anybody repair these things ?
-
All was well until today suddenly the LCD window showed nonsense info.
It will not turn ON or OFF without removing battery. Pressing "select"
brings up "E20". Pressing "Rewind" button flashes the "0" as when
film fully rewound, but opening and then shutting back sometimes
brings up "b.c" (battery check ?). So, I'm stuck, until I remove film
and start again.
Any ideas ???
Thanks,
Subhash

And since it is not an SLR... yes, I believe it is a rangefinder camera.

Hi,
The Hexar AF is quite a remarkable piece of work, and has a marvellous lens. The manual however does not explain any of the rather complicated functions of this camera. Fortunately, Richard Caruana did a great review, added to by other Hexar users. I ,in fact, bought my second Hexar after discovering this 49 page review. The following link takes you to it- http://www.photo.net/photo/hexar

I'm a relative novice, but is it not somewhat curious that the "stains" are only on skin tones ? Might that suggest something specific about the source of this problem ?

Thank you all for your input. John's comments, in particular, give me comfort. I own a Minolta 5400 II scanner that is great. Now all that I need to work on is buying an Epson R800, and of course, improving my skills...:)

Just to clarify- I was questioning digital camera vs. film camera, both printed on Inkjet. For me, traditional darkroom printing is too cumbersome to go back to. The question was more to do with how much one can predict the printable quality of a digital image (most on the web being from Digital cameras, which may appear 'equally good' on a monitor) vs. the "Hybrid" option that Stuart alludes to. Do most wweb based images look as good printed ?
-
Have loved my film camera gear, specially the Leica M. Haven't got a
printer currently, and do not own a Digital camera. So any attempt (
on my part) to decide 'film vs. digital' is limited to a computer
monitor, and not real prints. Am very impressed by digital images on
the web, and wonder if its time to sell leica - buy canon s20D. Or,
do prints (larger than 8x10)from digital cameras not look as good as
scanned images from film cameras? I am assuming the use of good
negatives, Hi-res scanners etc. vs. 8 or 10 megapixel cameras. I am
aware of 'why' I use film cameras (the enjoyment of the process
etc.), and that many (most ?) pros use digital gear now. I ask only
because someone implied that many digital camera images that appear
great on monitors do not necessarily print as well. BTW, not trying
to start any wars !
-
John, I use the original Leica one, and am very pleased. I can 'swing' the camera in my hand as I walk (ready to shoot)better than with it around my neck. The body feels more secure to hold against my face with the grip on. It also feels better when shooting verticals with the grip on top. Sorry, but have never used the Abrahamsson or Photo Equip Corp. one.
-
Maybe they last longer in the Southern Hemisphere..;)
BTW, How does one attach pictures to this forum so that they appear as photos, and not links ?
-
New MPs seem to sell for US$ 2600-3000 on eBay. So for a truly MINT one, CAD$ 2500 (about US$ 2031 by todays exchange rate) does not seem terrible. Naturally, CAD$ 2000 would be muuuch better...;)
-
Thanks, Lee, for the variations. Maybe on the next trip I can shoot it at night... in B/W...and give myself a real scare.

If I understand your question correctly, you are unable to focus (and bring to overlap)the two images of a horizontal line. Maybe your rangefinder is out of alignment !?
-
I was momentarily confused by the position viewfinder in the picture, until I realised it was a mirror image. :]
Where you from mister?
