  1. I guess that is where I am coming from. A 66 corvette stingray is a classic and it's sought out as a collector car or an occasional driver. I have not been a collector of cars or cameras myself but I do use a 1984 Leica M6 classic as my daily camera for outdoor use. I have a new digital camera but do not see it as a desired option that anyone would want in the future.
  2. To me a classic would be more then 25yrs old. Also it would be a camera that is still sought out by users and collectors. If my D200 was not in the landfill it would be approaching "classic" in about 10 more years at least in the age category. It's not something that people want to collect as far as I know. .
  3. Pile of old boxes at the local Historical Park. Leica M6 back from a service. Kodak Ultramax.
  4. Thank you for the link. Now that I have seen this much I am going to keep an eye out for his prints. I live in the Bay Area, Ca and there are a number of places that may have some of his prints or will have. I'm still going to check out his book.
  5. My son-in-law is in a PHD program at UC Santa Cruz, Ca and I will ask if he could bring the book home or if I could use the library. Thanks for the tip.
  6. I would like to check out his book "The Decisive Moment". I am going to a book store today and looked on-line to see if they have a copy. It's an order only book and it's to expensive for me so I am not going to buy or see it.
  7. I wonder if the pill cures gambling. I am going to purchase a Mega Millions ticket tonight.
  8. I have yet to meet somebody that has Appliance Acquisition Syndrome. But it's a complicated world out there.
  9. It's not GAS if you sell your gear for a profit.
  10. My Leica M6 has auto focus that works pretty good. As soon as I bring it up to my eye I automatically focus it every time. Auto focus of that type runs on pancakes and coffee.
  11. I have a Lumix G7 and it has a full flippy screen. The screen being able to flip around a lot can be turned so that it faces inwards if you do not wish to use it or even see it. It has manual operation as well as manual focus. The manual focus through the electronic viewfinder will enlarge the center portion of the picture so you can focus accurately. It also has a focus peaking system built in that verifies exact focus. A camera such as the Canon SL2 and others with a flippy screen will have the same screen that will turn inwards. The Canon will have full manual operation also. I do not know what system the Canon would have to aid you with manual focus but it would be different then the G7 with electronic viewfinder. All digital cameras have batteries that need to be charged often.
  12. I would be more interested if the photographer was going to be using on board flash. If so then you might as well have Uncle Jed do the snap.
  13. Leica M6 Kodak Gold 200. BlackSmith Homestead at Pinnacles National Park.
  14. Photo of a Calif Condor using my Leica M6 with 35mm lens. The lens is probably the worst focal length for bird photography but it was the camera I had. This morning I am sending the camera to Youxin Ye for a CLA and MP anti flare finder upgrade.
  15. I'm for the most part shooting Kodak UltraMax is all. After a 5% price hike it is still affordable for me to use film for general photography. C41 processing at home is a huge savings over mail order developing. Superia with the 30% price hike is still going to be competitive with Kodak actually in the consumer films. No hate for Fuji from me. They are just a business trying to make a dollar. The consumer can buy their product or not as they please. I think the Fuji digital camera's are very popular but even the digital world has problems as sales are shrinking every year in that market also.
  16. Garry's Camera repair (garryscamera.com) will do a CLA for $55.00 plus $8.00 shipping. He has worked on several of my camera's and it's always been good. Fast turn around.
  17. I used screw in diopters from bhphoto on my Nikon cameras but finally decided that removing and replacing my glasses all the time was not worth it and returned the original eyepiece to the cameras. Currently shooting a Leica M6 with the factory eyepiece. The M6 does not have enough eye relief but I am doing well with it wearing glasses anyway.
  18. No issues. Just clean water spot free negatives.
  19. Lately I have been laying out paper towels on the table and then taking the film off the spool and laying them on the paper towel. Then fold over the paper towel and blot (not squeegee). Then I move the negatives to a dry spot and blot again and then a 3rd time. That prevents C41 water spots, avoids squeegee scratching and reduces the drying time hugely. Dust problems are also reduced. I suppose due to the quick drying time.
  20. I was housed in the Concrete Barracks at Fort Ord. Not sure if they are still there or not. . Maybe the first week was in the wooden barracks but it's hard to remember. I do not remember my Drill Sergeant's name but he was nice enough. I think he only spoke to me one time during the entire thing that I remember. We had the Meningitis thing so we could not go anywhere for the entire basic training. The buildings are run down, graffiti, all the windows smashed, doors knocked out. Seems like they should tear them down but have no clue what is up with that or if the Government owns the property or it belongs to the College. Nobody around the buildings and none of it's posted keep out. You could walk around inside if you wanted to but I figured it looked like maybe the floors would cave in so I did not. I did live in Wooden Barracks just like these on Sand Hill, Ft Benning for over a year. They had coal furnaces and no air conditioning. During the summer it was full body sweat pretty much all the time.
