Use the green rectangle. It is perfect for you.

When I give a gift I do not give a receipt from the purchase. When I get a gift I don't get a receipt from the purchase. If I ever have to have them serviced under warranty & Canon refuses it I guess we will go to court over it. It is no ones business what was paid or where it was purchased if it was a gift.

Got an epson 24oo printer and it is a real pain in the butt. Just finished a
full 6 hours in printing 50 8.5x11 sheets of cards. One 4x5 color image and
greeting info in B&W, 6 lines of about 25 characters. Printed on both sides,
image on one and printed info on the other so it folds and looks good as a
christmas card.
First, the Somerset Velvet I used was older and fed perfectly. Deckled edge or
straight, it fed and printed well. Ran out after a few sheets (miscalculated
and thought I had a few more boxes) and had to get new paper. Got the same
stuff from the supplier 60 miles away. NO deckeled edge like the older stuff I
was using so now I had to reprint all on the new stuff so all the cards will be
the same.
Same setup, no changes, just insert paper and print.
Paper cycles through without printing, over and over and over again. Had to
reset the thing so often all I did for 6 hours is stand over the machine and re-
feed the paper. Cleaned the rollers a number of times. Not much difference.
Would feed and spit it out, over and over. Then finally feed right and print.
Then more feed and spit the paper out. At times it did this more than 20 times
in a row.
I could have printed this in the darkroom, cut cardstock and dry mounted the
photos faster than this digital printer.
This stuff just is not reliable enough to trust for work that has to be done on
time. Sure glad I still have my real darkroom. I am spending more time in it
these days for many reasons. Next year I will do this card order forthese folks
with real photos dry mounted or tipped in on the cards. I have had it with this
digital printing crap. Too slow and too unreliable.

F/64, is unnatural to the human eye as is Velvia.
Maybe there is something defective in your eyes?

How can it be 'up and coming' if it has not even started?

Ries tripods are a good match and they last and last and last. Check the photo.net classifieds as there is currently a good Ries tripod with head for sale. (not mine)
After using it awhile you won't worry too much about the size of the 8x10 camera and 4x5 will become medium format to you.

Take a look at the portable ice fishing blinds if you are going to leave one set up for awhile. They are pretty solid and many have good velcroed in windows that you can remove to poke lenses out. Some have a good heavyweight plastic sled in the base to keep you insulated from the ground/ice and this can sure come in handy.
Cabelas and hunting supply catalogues are good sources for blinds.

your motivation for logging on for no other reason than to shame her and put her down is less clear.
Well jocko, I didn't log on for that reason. Shame her? I am not the one doing a 'pro' job not knowing how to meter. 'Put her down'? Not hardly. The post shows the photographer does not know what she is doing. Every indication is there pointing to another part timer that believes owning a camera makes them a photographer.
this is an open forum which welcomes people of all experience levels. maybe you're be happier elsewhere
Could be true. At least I know enough to form a coherent sentence and capitalize the first word in a sentence. I expect that from others, simple intelligence showing in what we do. It appears from your respone that I am overly optimistic.
-
What are you doing photographing a wedding if you don't know the basics of metering?
Ever think of learning your craft?
How about taking a model out in the snow and doing some tests so you can learn what you are doing instead of going online and asking for advice from people who may or may not know what they are talking about?

http://www.sportshots.org and take a look at the wrestling photos and pricing. Should be a bit of help. He is a friend who does this full time.

Have been living in Utah for a few years and they are really good about issuing concealed weapons permits. So much so that people come here from other states to get them.
I photograph street scenes and usually have a slabside .45, the old Colt 1911 model, in a shoulder holster.
When an officious type comes up and does get in my face about the camera or tripod I make sure the jacket comes open and the butt of the pistol shows as I make a point of asking him if he is going to try and steal my camera and tripod or assault me.
They always back off and at times ask about the pistol and I let them know I have the concealed carry permit and am willing to use the pistol against muggers and thieves.
Works every time. The few times a real police officer has come on the scene the fact the pistol is holstered, no threats have been made and I am licensed to carry has made sure there are no problems.

So how did it go? As big as the anti Vietnam protests of the 60's and early 70's?

"Marc, "You're lucky Ron, they could've uh, "gone postal" when they saw you snap their picture." Wonderful attitude to have in this day and age, you owe all postal workers an apology."
He doesn't owe anyone an apology. Where do you think the term "going Postal" came from? It wasn't from some of these folks being rude at the stamp window.

The way it was described to me was flat, flat and more flat. Maybe there is more there than people say?

Have been planning a trip to see a friend in the cold and frozen North country
of North Dakota. He is near Minot where the airbase has the highest
retirement/lowest re-enlistment rate of the whole US Air Force.
What is there to photograph in a place like this? What in North Dakota at all?
I have heard more about Kansas!
At least South Dakota has the Badlands. But what does North Dakota have other
than being able to see the backs of polar bears in the Arctic hundreds of miles
North since it is so flat?

Mother Says Daughter's Class Picture Was Doctored
POSTED: 6:20 pm EDT October 12, 2006
UPDATED: 12:18 pm EDT October 13, 2006
ORLANDO, Fla. -- A local family is outraged by a school photo. When the
pictures came back from the studio, a seven-year-old girl?s image appeared to
have been doctored to give her cleavage.
The debate is whether the photo just has a very strange shadow or it's been
digitally altered by someone.
------------------------------------
Go and take a look at this one. Poor lighting technique and the opinion of
photo "experts" probably not smart enough to find their butt in a bathroom.

"There's no reason to use shutter priority. You are MUCH better off in Program, Aperture Priority and Manual."
Not if you want the higher shutter speed to help with what you are shooting, like sports.

I have been trying to find a Series IX 6 stop neutral density filter and have
had no luck. Many of the camera stores I have asked don't even know what a
neutral density filter is, much less what a Series IX is. If it is not digital
and the latest they aren't interested.
Anyone know where I can find one of these guys to fit an older lens for the
8x10?

If one looks in South Dakota, other than the Badlands or Black Hills what is
there to photograph?
Do we have to watch out when on or near the Indian reservations? Any problems
with them? Was at a town just outside the Rosebud reservation last summer and
there were at least 100 drunk Indians and Indian panhandlers there. Didn't want
to stop with that mob hanging around.
Is South Dakota mainly flat outside of the Black Hills?

Sports photography. Boxing is the best. The color stuff doesn't compare to the old B&W speed graphic photos.

"recent posts in other threads suggesting pornography can be harmful to both women and men"
I really had to laugh when then Pres Richard Nixon tried to destroy all the copies of "The Presidents Commission of Obscenity and Pornography" because after years of research and spending Millions of Dollars on the thing it came to a simple conclusion. "This stuff doesn't harm anybody". Nixon tried to have it all destroyed but some decent government employees smuggled copies out for the public and press to see.
As for Art hurting people, I watched a guy and his girlfriend both slip on the rocks and fall on the Spiral Jetty in Great Salt Lake, Utah. It is a piece of environmental art in Great Salt Lake and the rocks can get slippery.

I read sometime back about a Federal law that made it a crime to photograph
models that Look underage even though they were 18 or older. Can't find
anything on it by searching ghrough Google so some help is needed.
If you know of it or remember it please post some info so I can find more about
it. I think it was referred to as a "Lolita law" but in searching have no luck
getting to it.

The stuff about NO P.O. Boxes is a downer. Living where there is NO rural delivery and we have to have a P.O. Box makes it difficult to deal with a number of businesses. Even FedEx and UPS drop the packages at the Post Office where we go to pick them up. The postmistress puts them behind the counter or, if small enough, in the P.O. Box.

Fuji Velvia can give this. So can many of the Ektachromes. Good light and exposure will do wonders.
Proof of x-ray damage from airport carry-on scanners?

"It's better to buy film at your destination than carry it, even at the higher price."
Yep, getting to Tibet and finding 7x17 film is the way to go, for sure.
"Carry-On X-rays almost certainly won't damage your film."
ASMP in Salt Lake City, Utah had a good example of ruined film shown at one of the meetings a few years ago. It can and does happen. So go ahead, take the gamble but don't complain if you become one of those 'rare' stories some day.
