No HDR - Single frame exposure; Nikon D2x & GND filter.
Taken a year ago in Los Padres National Forest, before the whole place
went up in flames during the crazy wildfires last summer.

A very nice image. I like the view across the slope.

No HDR - Single Frame on Nikon D2x with Polarizer.
Normally a fairly quiet spot, a few moments after this image was
taken, an entire class of high school students that were on a college
geology field trip showed up. It was no longer anywhere near as
peaceful as this photo belies.

Great to see you posting new images again. Really like the classic Adamus mood lines you have here.
Needless to say, this is much better than anything I got on my trip (pun) to Death Valley.

Awesome, beautiful, relaxing, etc..
Happy to add to my favorites.

No HDR - single frame from Nikon n90s w Fuji Velvia.
Sitting atop Sentinel Dome on a very dark and stormy summer evening, I
was blessed with one small opening of sky off on the far western
horizon that allowed this single beam of sunlight to illuminate Half
Dome and Clouds Rest. I underexposed the shot to keep the clouds dark
and the sunlit areas a deep golden color as opposed to risking
over-exposure.

A nice scene for sure, but the brightness in the center is a much, as is the light fall-off toward the edge of the frame - most notable on the cloud. The timing on the shutter speed and color of the water are both spot on.

No HDR. Single Frame exposure on Nikon n90s w / Fuji Velvia & split
GND Filter.
The toughest part of this shoot was waiting for the big waves. I'd get
one wave roll in, but the sun was too high, and there was too much
flare. It would take several minutes before another wave large enough
to make this much spray. As the sun got lower, it seemed like the
large waves took longer and longer between sets. I was getting really
worried that the sun would set before I got another good wave.
Luckily, one last really large wave came in with a really explosive
crash. I felt so lucky, 'cuz this really was the last wave of the day
like this before the sun dipped below the horizon.

Great shot. Always love seeing your work, and this is no exception.

Very Good - and to think I just made a comment on another similar about a tighter crop. Bravo - this works very very well.
-
very nice, but I think a tighter crop might also work just as well or even better.
-
nice light and exposure, incl shutter speed. However I'm not sure the wave area in the whole lower right 25% of the image has enough strong lines or area of interest to support that much of the frame. Just my HO.

Nice comp, but WAY oversharpened for this web presentation.

Michael:
What a nice present. I can certainly appreciate Ian's thoughts as well, and could agree on some points, but my first response was this is a 'home run' shot. It has your personal style, great mood, wonderful perspective, solid frame, and awesome lighting on the peak. I personally think Galen would have really loved this shot, and had he taken it, I'm sure he'd have been raving about it as a favorite from his trip as well, to the point where he'd call everyone into his office, just to show us the picture. - And ya can't do much better than that.
Congrats on a magnificent capture - def added to my favorites.

Overall, I love the scene, but I'm not thrilled by the left side, esp. the upper left with the tree. I'm sure there are a couple cropping options that would help to tighten and clarify this scene.
Cheers.

Ya gotta love those moments when this kind of light sneaks through the clouds. Congrats on a wonderful capture.

I'm a big fan of road shots, and this is very well done; love the dark mood.
-
Beautiful scene and light; very nice capture.

I agree, very nice use of the trail to bring me into the photo.
