Sawpit Calm

The clouds at the horizon were dramatic and Lake Superior (at Sawpit Bay) was dead calm; the water line was barely discernible and reflections were minimal. I used a 10-stop ND to further smooth the water to try and capture a bit of reflection and separation form the sky. I felt that the rocks were a nice contrast and lead to the background. Thanks for looking.

I really like the timelessness of this, the heavy mist, and the tiny folks in raincoats. Very imposing viewpoint; the b&w works perfectly here.
  12.
I own the D800 and recently added the D5300. I have owned the D300, D70S (now converted to IR), and D70, and am familiar with the D7000 and D60.

Main advantages of the D5300 over the D7100: slightly better IQ, flip screen, smaller (about 20%) and lighter (479g vs 765g), cheaper, slightly better light sensitivity, and very slightly lower noise at high ISO.

Main advantages of the D7100 over the D5300: weather sealed, better battery life, more focus points, and built-in focus motor (so you can autofocus old Nikon and non-Nikon lenses).

For me, I was looking for a small size and flip screen primarily for potential street photography use and so I chose the D5300.

Well lit and initially pretty image. Your equipment lists a grad, but why did you use a grad when you have combined three images? Also, I realize that you are trying to recreate what you saw, but the image lacks realism for me because it does look like a foreground and a background were pasted together. I understand why you joined them with an f/22 sun shot as this f-stop creates better "sun stars" for some lenses. And perhaps that is part of the unrealism as I would have expected to see a few sun beams in the lower half of the image. Regards, Jeff
  14. The point of view is good because it seems like you are standing in the creek. A downside is the time of day as the bright light is a bit harsh. Perhaps try shooting the same scene on a cloudy day for even lighting.
  15. Nice scene and the exposure on the water is good. There is very noticeable mechanical vignetting in the two left corners and upper right, however. This is likely due to filter stacking. Regards, Jeff
