Here are my questions:
1. Would you prefer to use low ISO to get as much clean picture as
possible, even if some pictures may come out underexposed?
2. Would you prefer to use high ISO to get as much pictures as
possible? Then use Noise Reduction software to remove noises come
from high ISO.
3. Which Noise Reduction do you, if you use one?

To have correct aspect ratio display on the screen (Regular-screen
not wide-screen), what resolution ratio we should use? Do we have to
maintain 4:3 ratio, such as 1024 x 768.

Steve is right. Don't go for cheap LCD unless you really want to relax your eyes at the expense of color accuracy.
-
LCD lasts around half of a CRT monitor, on the average.
Is buying a used CRT monitor like asking for trouble? Depends on your luck. 3 years ago, more than likely that you are asking for trouble. Today, as so many people go for LCDs to save deskspace, it may not be asking for trouble as long as deskspace is not an issue for you.
Stuffs get cheap very fast? Sure. Lots of girls stared at me when I was a teen and in 20's. Now, I am so cheap that I hardly find girls take a look at me.

I prefer to buy a good-used Trinitron/Diamondtron monitor at rock bottom price. Use it 2-3 years and throw it away with $10 deposal fee. By then, LCD will be cheaper and better, color accuracy maybe as good as today's Trinitron/Diamondtron. I've seen couple of good used (some still under warranty) Trinitrons in www.craigslist.org, and I can pick it up locally.

Bob,
There is no more 17" CRT in the market as good as your Viewsonic GT775 when it was new. I know Sony stopped making 21" and smaller monitors 2 years ago. I ain't sure if Sony still making any Trinitron. Browse around Sony/NEC/Mitsubishu sites, they don't even mention about Trinitron/Diamondtron monitor at all. All the current CRTs in production are not high quality products. You probably have to go for LCDs. If you are like me, still love Trinitrons over LCD, you can browse around eBay for some good used aperture grill (Trinitron/Diamondtron) monitors. If you live in the Silicon Valley, check out the www.craigslist.org to have used monitor from local sellers.

The original question: Why are we using MAC? MAC came out at the time when PC (IBM) dominated the whole desktop computing market. MAC is graphical oriented while PC was text oriented for business office only. That was why MAC targeted at school. Apple donated a lot of machines to the schools. Since early-90's, PC Windows gradually has more graphical interface. As of today, we don't see much different between MAC and Windows. MAC survives so many years because there is a big pool of people hate Wintel, not because MAC is cute. MAC suffers less virus etc. because MAC is not a popular machine for hackers to have fun with, not because it has a better operating system. My Unix system never get virus attack too. MAC machine is stable because Apple doesn't build lousy machine. There are many good and lousy PCs around. The lousy built PCs corrupt the name of PC.

Could you suggest a video card you use or like to have for PhotoShop
work? Do different brands of video cards work differently on
different brands or types (CRT / LCD) of monitors?
-
I prefer 9300K because white is whiter than 6500K and the color is more close to real life color.
-
For LCD: Use native resolution, very simple.
For CRT: Use the recommended resolution. But you can use any resolutions you prefer. Keep in mind that the recommended resolution is the actuall screen resolution (amount of pixels). Supplying higher resolution get smaller picture but bigger workspace, and your picture will become fuzzy because there is actually not enough pixels available in the small area. Supplying lower resolution get bigger picture and smaller workspace. You are like zooming into the picture.
-
If color accuracy is that much important to you, I would suggest you to use a CRT instead of LCD. I don't know what brand of CRT has the highest color accuracy, Sony Trinitron? NEC Diamondtron? ViewSonice? ...
-
Is it the Viagra issue or LCD's un-realistic image? How does CRT (such as Sony Trinitron) compare to Viagra on you?
-
Compared LCD to CRT monitor for photo editing, which one you prefer?
Among the CRT monitors, is Trinitron the best? LCD is quite gentle on
the eyes, but do they give good accurate colors and shadows?

Sorry, Dr. Mark Chappell. I didn't know that you're a Canon brand loyaltist. It's just my opinion that Nikkor lens are better than Canon lens in wide-angles and macro, but I use Canon because I am going to take a biology class from you next semester.

Leica lens will survive but camera will not. Either the whole company to be sold to Panasonic or Leica concentrates on lens business only. Even if the whole Leica to be sold to Panasonic, Panasonic will keep the Leica brand, especially for the lenses. Leica probably ends up in Japanese digital body (by Panasonic) and German glass lens (by Leica).
-
Or you can use an adapter to use with Nikkor (Nikon) macro lens, which are normally superior to Canon macro lens.
-
I'm sure your Nikon 3500 is not dead, just drunk. And I'm sorry to hear that you wasted the bear.
-
Switch to Nikon or Minolta or ... After that, you still have to sue Canon for their stinky business practice, not just talk about that. Don't listen to Bob Atkins (www.bobatkins.com). He is a big mouth-piece for Canon. How could he assume Canon is a good guy while the rebate-processing company is the one to be blamed on? No rebate-processing company will scam consumers if it doesn't benefit from it. I'm sure that the rebate-processing is instructed by Canon USA.
-
I haven't received my rebate from Canon lens 2 years ago. These are bullshit people.
As for Nikon, I got rebates from a flash and lens within 2 months. It seems that Nikon, in rebate issue, is a better company than Canon. Funny thing is that Nikon kept telling me that they couldn't find my record. But at the same time, I got checks in my mailbox. I believe people who response emails are not the same people send out the checks.

I asked about DSLR system among Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Olympus. It seems that people are interested in comparing Canon to Nikon only.
Canon brings out new camera design ahead of Nikon or Minolta or Olympus. It is a plus.
Canon also designs its own sensors. Nikon uses those from Sony. But that doesn't make Canon sensors better than Nikon's (Sony's). As the matter of fact, Sony has more advance electronic technology than Canon does. I heard that Kodak is entering into sensor business and will mass produce sensors for other camera companies. If that is the case, camera manufacturers, including Canon, will just use off-the-self sensors from Kodak or Sony, much like in the old days all camera manufacturers use films from Kodak, Fuji, ...
-
Edward H write: I personally like the system which gives me the largest choice. I can have a 1.0x 16mp sensor, a 1.3x 8mp and two 1.6x 8mp. Nikon gives me a 1.5x in 12, 6 or 4mp. you only get ONE choice of crop and therefore use of lenses.
Having so many crop factors is no good because that make your set of lenses has limited ues.
-
Oop. I forgot that flash is another important factor to choose a system, whether it is Canon, Nikon, Konica-Minolta, Olympus, ...
-
I am confused when I choose between the 2 systems of DSLR: Canon and
Nikon. According to www.dpreview, there are more visitors to Canon
products than Nikon products. What are the advantages Canon over
Nikon? Why so many pros use Nikon? Why so many people interested in
Canon review? What is the lens qualities comparison between Canon and
Nikon? Do you think that Konica-Minolta or Olympus is a better
alternative?
-
I don't think it makes that much difference for small data files unless you are 007 in those spy movies.
