1.
I need to replace battery in my BL, and I was about to order a couple of Wein cells. However, I remember a post discussing the merits of the MR-9 adapter for BL (and other cameras built during mercury age). If buying one of these adapters, what batteries can I use?

I know the silver oxide 1.5 V do not mix well with Minox BL (camera lacking bridge circuitry for lowering the voltage - is this correct ?). So this MR 9 adapter is some sort of a contraption similar to the Minox 4cell adapter ( replacing the PX27)? I mean it reduces the voltage from 1.5 V to 1.35 V? Or should I just go with the Wein cells and use a couple per year, 1 in 6 mts ?

Please advise, thank you!

Regards, JT

  2.
Hi all!

Following serious usage of a few cameras from my collection, I am in need of finding a serious and reliable camera repair shop. The cameras are not many, and the faults are minor:a viewfinder glass here, a bit of lubing there, rangefinder out of focus (slightly),and so forth.

I would consider it a favor if anyone here can put me on the right track. Just one thing though: the shop has to be located in Europe...the US is far far away and customs seem to take import taxes very seriously nowadays.

Thank you in advance, any reply would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Night,in the woods.I tried to take a picture of a spot of mist against the trees you can see in the background. The mist was forming and coming out in the clearing we were in,from a place on our right side.Camera was a Minox B,loaded with Agfa APX 400,tripod -clamped,setting B for 8-10 seconds. There was definitely no light coming from anywhere, far away from the road,no flash light on.The moon was not that bright, but you could see your way around.I do not believe it was a fault of the film, since the same film provided otherwise some excellent images.

I haven't seen anything, beside the spot of mist forming in front of me,some 2-3 meters away. The mist didn't had any shape or form in particular, just mist.On developing the film, this is what film recorded.Spooky at the least...

Any idea anyone?

  4.
In "What Planet Are You From?",FAA's operative John Goodman covertly photographs the alien who came to get laid on Earth...he's using what seems to be a Minox ECX with flash unit hooked on (he actually employs the flash).

In Goodman's large hands, the camera is almost invisible, but you can see very clearly the "hammer" type of the ECX flash unit.

  5.
Count me in as one of the handful (no pun intended).

My ha'penny worth:I am a member of various other "submini","miniature","small format" photography gatherings on the web.True indeed that last two years were marred by some kind of slow activity, here and there,or even stopped altogether (see Minox Yahoo Groups, dead as a dodo now, when it used to bustle with activity).

However, last few months I have seen a resurrection of interest in Minox. Many queries regarding film slitters, enough to show the interest in home spooled cassettes. Also,a number of people joining the web clubs and posting results.

While true the scanners are still on the dear side (and I mean those good ones),their prices nonetheless went down on the last couple of years.Obviously not many will purchase a Nikon scanner valued at 900 USD when one is using it for Minox negs scanning only. But good scanners are pretty much affordable today than they were say,in 2009 or 2010 and usually the Minox users are shooting other formats as well,so a good investment in a scanner surely is worth one's while.

I wouldn't know about that "handful",Minox London...with 4 films shot, you certainly are one of the Minox users.Even 4 films per year still makes you one :-))

Anyways, like any of the hobbies where investment and quality ,attentive work is asked for, probably there are ups and downs.,especially during a severe economic recession which nowadays looms over us.I hope Minox photography will thrive ,and gather new adherents to the cause:-).

  6.
Hi Daniel

You may want to check this link here, good repair manual:http://www.submin.com/16mm/manuals/rollei/

Alternatively, see this group ,perhaps the member therein can be of help, although only 25 of them:http://www.flickr.com/groups/tinyrollei/

Another groups may be of help :

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/rollei/

Bearing in mind these little gems are not expensive as they used to be,perhaps you could purchase another one and have this jammed camera for parts.Anyways,I do hope you get your camera repaired. They are a joy to use.

Kind regards,

  7.
To my knowledge, the best (and quite affordable) slitter from 35mm to 9.2mm was manufactured and sold by John Birkby from the UK (obviously not counting the factory-produced Minox Acmel machine).I used to buy from him my Minox film slitter until a couple of years ago, when he apparently stopped manufacturing and selling the slitter.A recent search for his current website or contact details gave nil results.

However,a good replacement is this here, manufactured and sold by a guy from the US,ebay username "xkaes":

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Al-Spoil-film-slitter-cut-any-film-dow...

I have bought two from this individual,so far results are very good. From using the slitter,I can tell this:

-price is less than the Birkby slitter

-blades can be replaced by user (whereas the Birkby slitter had the blades cemented into the body)

-blades are inexpensive and easily obtainable

-cut is smooth and the film bed is from a non scratchy material

-last but not least, xkaes sells not only a 35 to 9.2mm slitter, but also a 35 to 16mm and 120 to 9,2 and 16mm.So,plenty of opportunities to employ slitter to deal with MF film as well as providing a film source for 16 mm users, such as I.

There are also some different 9.2mm film slitters which appear every now and then.An example can be viewed in the photo attached.I have bought this as part of a Minox lot from e&ay.It doesn't have any markings and I suspect it was part of a larger machine. The coating and materials used scream late 60's - early 70's,but no other details.Every now and then Russian 9.2 and 16mm show up for sale, and they are manufactured on the same principle as the one in the photograph here.

Hope you manage to find one on your liking and use it fully to the benefit of your Minox cameras:-))

Best regards
8.
I have in my collection a Minox Reflex Viewfinder and a Minox Right Angle Finder, both model B.Both are in as new condition, mirrors and glass clear and bright. Both are in their genuine boxes, with the complementary papers/leaflets.The boxes have tiny marks, due to storage.

These items are surplus to me,and I am looking to swap or trade these for similar items, model A (to use with Minox A/III cameras).
