Hiya,
As a very poor photo student, I am looking to buy a Bronica SQA for those times when a
university '7 or Hassy isn't avalible... To raise funds I plan to sell my sb-600 flash which gets
very little use and replace it with something cheaper and basic enough to use well with both
the D70 and Bronica...
Any ideas?
Thanks!

No no, im with you on learning with film!
I still am and I own a dSLR... I find I pay way less attention with that, just scroll through
appertures or +/- until it looks good! And a nice view finder is a good thing to start with, get
composition sorted with that... FE2 for me. I have been through various AF SLRs to reach my
FE2 and think I will be sticking...

Well if you dont act alarmist you get boring replies don't you! :) So its okay if your images
make it into a gallery, but then to publicise your exebition the gallery run a serries of
billboards with one of your street scene images.
What happens then? Thats you using the images as art in the gallery, but the gallery using
them commercialy to advertise their service (you). Sounds all very tricky!

Not a lawyer, not american and havn't analysised it... But the gist is scary. Guess I won't be
returning to America any time again.
Be nice if someone could confirm what I think it says...

New market for you then:
RETOUCHER - Let me mend the wedding photos your uncle took, only 1k per batch.

Pentax K1000s seem to be practicaly holding our photography department building's roof up.
Can learn everything you need to know and get hundreds of nice photos for about a tenner
then spend your money on what you know you want. I spent way too much on my first
camera, realised a couple of years later I did not like it and had to spend a load more to get
something more suitable for me. (Auto Focus Minolta down to manual focus Nikon)

You might make yourself quite unpopular using AF-Assist at many gigs. One lens I hear a lot
about for concert photography and have tried to aquire off ebay several times is a 28-70 (ish)
f/2.6-2.8 Tokina. Meant to be highly regarded and also that tiny bit faster, also built like a
tank.

Number one.

Go out in the morning and offer to buy them breakfast. chat over a nice full english and you'll
have them agreeing to every shot you can think of.

The Tube in london have No *flash* Photography signs in places - so you dont dazzel drivers
I once heard. Fair enough I thought! Tweezers didnt make it with me on my last plane
journey. Nail clippers could cut somebody. But plucking their hairs one by one? US congress
didnt ban lighters due to pressure from the tobbaco industry - so their loyal smokers can
light up the moment they got off. And the crazy brit almost blew up a plane using a lighter -
whos even attempted to use a tweezer?!

Walk into a high school, college, uni, 6th form whatever you call it and put an advert in the
common rooms on student notice boards. nice and informal and you'll have you editor in
hours.

Going to go against the grain and reccomend a Nikon Fm3a. Its film (shock) but to me at
least is just as fun as my D70 and in my view film is still a great way to learn photography,
even if you take up digital and never go back just a few months later.
Also, you wanted to go semi-pro lateron, the D70 and even D200 arnt entirley pro bodies
and by then they'll probably be better ones. But the Fm3a will still be just what it is now and
a great backup / b&w film camera for you. This is what iv had done if i started again anyway!

Maybe a gallery thing above the hall that you can use to shoot down at the tables. Sort table
shots out no problem.

Lords are still Lords whether they are rich or better or not, its a lot more complicated than that for some of them. True, it cant hurt ones career to be a Lord... Where I live its somehow still very medievil and I live between two Lord of the Manors, each owning most of small towns eithor side of me with all the 'peasents' working for the Lord, etc. Think its fascinating and would be gutted if it was all done away with. So shushit, peasent!

I was threatened and mocked on the phone to a brooklyn camera store a while ago.
Apparently during my conversation their company policy on shipping to the UK was changed
and British Customs needed to see a memory card with the camera to prove it wasnt a bomb.
Extra $300 please ('mayte'). Was shocked to see that such shites can still operate in America
and even more shocked that there are americans dumb enough to buy from them - which
must happen or they wouldnt exist.

Disagree about best candids being without flash, they cant see flash until the pictures in the
bag! If you bounce it they may never even guess. Look at Martin Parr, he shoots street candid
with full on fill flash.

Sorry, has to be said... Dont overlook a f/1.8 50mm lens. Not a zoom like you ask but faster
than any zoom, one of Nikon's sharpest lenses.... and look at ebay prices! (about gbp20
used, gbp70 new)

Thankyou, thats a very well kept secret obviously! Its enough to make me regret buying my
dSLR off ebay from hong kong anyway!

Did you know when your finished with your massive bulk of a tumble dryer or fridge etc you
can take it back to currys or anywhere and make them dispose of it in a proper enviroment
friendly fashion?? Thats worth doing just to see them squirm!

Part A... Personaly Id go with the 5D but that might just be lust... I know it seems a silly
point but Looking Proffesional often seems to mean having a big arse camera - I felt I
didnt stand out that much shooting a wedding using a D70 alongside 2 of the guests.
Maybe just because I was younger, but Im sure a silly thing like a more expensive camera
helps with the image - important at a wedding you might say.

Recently gave up my custom reasonable spec PC for a similar spec 20" iMac G5 after no
experience with Macs and am so impressed with my decision - dont go by specs, they are
just so much less painfull to use its a joy. Crashing aps for example mean simply
restarting a program instead of whole OS, and thousends of little joys - worth it
completely for me and would be keane to recommend. (At my university halls there are
maybe 7 apples for every dell and then maybe 2 random PC brands - an Arts campus you
see, but still...)

If you use aperture prioty, turn the front dial until the number wont get any lower (ie. 4 or 5.6). If you set auto-iso on aswel you will be getting as much light as you need and still exposing correctly.

If your photos now look blury switch to shutter priorty, choose 1/focal length (ie. at 300mm use 250 at 70mm use 80) and shoot in RAW mode. The editor will then be able to bump up the exposure in Photoshop.
D50 with older flashes? esp. the Sunpak 344?

Hiya, im a student also and such is studentness am thinking of selling my sb600 (for D70) for something dirt cheap that will also work with my Yatcshia and FE2. Any chance of an ideal unit?? Not realy fussed about loosing iTTL as it would only confuse me for when using a system that does'nt support it!
You might want to buy the sb600 for a bit (2nd hand) and then sell it on when you need the cash for whatever you bought it for. Assuming that is you get a new student loan installment this couple of weeks for next semistar like me... :)
