  1. I also find it a little dark but i think its more a matter of taste. He does look angry or upset to me because of the shadow across the eyes. The hair framing the eyes also intensifies the stare. Having said that, it does engage me which any good photo should.

Wonderful shot. With the determination on that lads face, you know nothing is going to stop him. Great facial expressions.

Very dramatic photo. I am wondering how you did this. Did you add the sky from one photo to the water from another? The contrast between the busy sky with all those clouds and the stillness of the water make it almost surreal. Nice work.

Interesting. Were they re-enacting some historical event? Great expression on the central face. Might have liked to see more of the other two faces but you certainly have me wondering what he was thinking to be making that face. Private joke perhaps? Nice capture

Great close up. Loads of detail. I am fascinated by the dot pattern on the ear. I never noticed that on elephants before.

Thanks Pnina, i will post my photoshop efforts once i am happy with them. Christopher, its actually the turtleback zoo, a small zoo in west orange. This was a badly neglected zoo but has now made a great comeback with much better enclosures and cares for local injured wildlife for instance one of their bald eagles has only one eye and cant survive in the wild. Heavy construction going on there at the moment but should be all done by summer. Interestingly wild vultures and red tailed hawks visit the zoo regularly and according to one keeper a wild bald eagle has come by too. I should say they are not fed by anyone there. Well worth a visit.

    Snow

Ok, no animal so not my usual thing. Couldn't resist getting out in the snow after the blizzard. Honest opinions appreciated. I am not sure if there is too much out of focus in front and if it distracts.
  2. This is really nice. I find myself taking time to look through the details. I notice a number of your images have a cat featured somewhere in the picture which is an interesting thread. Keep up the great work.

Really nice image. Abstract with suggestion of diagonal lines and lots of colour. I think the glass/plastic bases that the buttons are sitting on make this shot. With the buttons sitting on top, they look like abstract flowers.

Nanette, thanks for your comment. I would like to try fill flash next time to see what effect it has. I did want to include the full head including ears but a second wolf came up alongside this one and so i had to crop out its snout and unfortunately had to lose the ears. In the 4 hours, this was the only clear shot i had with this behaviour. I will be back to photograph them again as i am getting the feel of a new camera and lens and captive animals are good for practice. I will keep in mind everyones suggestions. thanks again.

Thank you Kathy. I will play a little in photoshop to see what I can come up with. Kim, I certainly wouldnt want to be the center of attention of this wolf! Birte, I enjoy both sites. They are very different from each other. Always a pleasure to see your photos.
  3. Hi Kim, Interesting effect. Definitely like a painting. The sky seems brighter than I would expect from the lighting on the ground and this gives it a slightly surreal effect. I wonder if we could see a little more of the lines on the road if that would sweep the eye even more into the photo? Nice work. Barry
  4. thanks for the comments. Yes, have fun with the little creatures. Its amazing what you will see with a macro that you would never have noticed before. This is a fairly common spider usually found hanging upside down in the web or nearby. One of my early macros with the bottom right washed out and the depth of field not quite what it should be. still I love the colour and translucency.

    The Love of Money

Hi Rein, I like this. When i saw it i immediately thought of the commercialization of Valentines Daywith Feb 14th coming up. The combination of red, money and heart. Nice

    Flying

Hi Danli, perhaps you can help me understand your photo? The horizontal thistle is unusual and made me wonder if photo needed to be rotated until i see the treeline. The angle of the butterfly wings is interesting and the blur does give the feeling of action: flying. Still the spots especially in the upper right are distracting and i am feeling like the elements dont pull together. Perhaps shooting to have most or all sky behind the butterfly would convey the flying in a stronger way? This is just my personal reaction. Feel free to take or leave it. I would be interested to hear your idea. thanks

  5. I like the contrast with the fashion going on in the shop window behind. The ribs showing on the dog at back makes me uneasy - think of dog fighting yet there are good quality cages and the dog is obviously feeding/drinking. Interesting.

Nice sweeping curve into the photo that leads to the interesting sunset. To me there is a balance between the upper right and lower left that allows the even (almost) split of sky and sea and feels peaceful. Great composition.

Thanks Ghiga. Ben, I am planning to take a photoshop course to improve my digital darkroom skills. Thanks for the suggestions.

Actually very little was done to this photo. The egrets legs are black so you cant see them and it was getting dark and in shade. i bracketed the exposure and this came out with a few leaves around it. i removed the leaves and thats what u see. thanks for the comment.
