1.
When I downloaded RAW files from my D800, the shadows were purple and looked 'solarized'. When I went back to the editing program later, they were normal...it was if they hadn't finished 'developing'.
Anyone have any thoughts about what's up with that???
Sorry for the earlier post...when I attached a photo, it was 'normal' and didn't illustrate the issue.

 2.
Knut,
This is what Leica's 2005 announcement of the Gibson SE MP said about the framelines:
"Gibson configured his personal Leica MP with only the 35, 50 and 90 mm frame lines, visible one at a time and without a preview lever, allowing fingertips of one?s left hand to have no obstruction and allowing more sensitivity to the mechanism of the camera."
It had the 0.85 finder, therefore no 28mm frame. It sounds like the one he showed you differed from the one Leica sold.
Here's more info from the B&H website:
3.
Knut...Is it possible that Mr. Gibson's "black chrome M6 with his signature engraved in the top plate" was actually a Ralph Gibson Signature Leica MP?

http://ralphgibson.myshopify.com/products/ralph-gibson-signature-leica-mp

In any case, your story is very interesting...and I agree with his observation that it can be easier to compose with a 50mm lens than a 35mm lens, although your photo taken with a 35mm lens is excellent!

00ZRec-405295584.jpg.57e2d05094a113c994415a20b267a2c1.jpg

 4.
"...another "pancake" version that has not been previously mentioned here ... the Mk.II AiS 2xxxxxx s/n series that focused to 0.45m and was originally distributed only in Japan"
I also have a copy of this version. It works very well with My D700.
In terms of being 'compact', this combination is about as good as it gets!

 5.
It appears a notch has been cut on the aperture ring, so yes it has been modified to work on an AI Nikon body.
Of course, neither of your Nikons are AI.

 6.
also, you might want to be sure the front of the lens doesn't turn. This lens is notorious for the adhesive that holds it together coming loose allowing the front part to turn. When attached, the hood will be at an odd angle.
Here's a link about this issue:
7.
Seems high for a PME...
Can you use the +1 dioper? If not, you'll have to buy another eyepiece.
Also, the description doesn't say if it's been modified for Acute Matte screen metering. If it hasn't and you plan to use an Acute Matte, you'll have to adjust its exposure measurement or pay to have it modified.
If you have an Acute Matte screen, I suggest you check keh.com for a PME that's been modified...or look for a PME-3 or later prism.
