A french author who's writing a bioghaphy of Charles Aznavour has contacted me
because he would like to use one or more of my pictures in the middle pages of
his book. www.photo.net/photo/5578832
This writer specialises in biographies of famous people and seems to be very
prolific. He would like me to send him a selection of pictures (low
resolution), and will pick a few he likes. I would like to send him a quote,
along with the lo res pictures, but I don't have a clue on how to estimate a
price for book publishing? Anybody can help me coming up with a professional-
like submission?
Also, this guy operates a fan club website and he has already posted my
picture, along with an article I wrote, in the "press release" category of his
site. He gave me the credit, but never asked for my permission: how do I deal
with all this?
Thanks for your comments.

I just got de-hired from an assignment because they found out I wasn't doing video as well as photo. So I guess my answer to this question is YES.

I work as a photojournalist for a local newspaper and a political figure I
interviewed hired me to cover as a photographer a private event. The work
consist of shooting the event from 7 to 8 pm, making sure every person there
has been photographed individually(there will be 25 guests), and a group shot.
The deputee will send each of them their picture in a 4x6 format.
I have to send an official submission or contract to his secretary; where can I
find example of generic forms for that kind of contract? I'm charging him $200
for covering the event, and I told him to expect to be charged around $125 for
25 small prints and one 8x12. That price includes my time spent processing the
images. Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I'm undertaking an extensive photo reportage on the utilisation of the forest
in the province of Québec. I will definitely be using film for a big part of
it, and I am attached to both the idea of color and B&W. With this project I'm
aiming for a magazine publication and an exhibiton. My former teachers used to
tell me that a documentary should be either B&W or color, and preferably shot
with the same brand of film. What is your opinion on that? Thanks.

Akulivik, an Inuit village situated on the northern edge of the province of Quebec(Canada) is supposed to be a wonderful place for aurora borealis.

Yann, thanks for the advices, I think it's a great idea to prepare a presentation. Take care.

Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to rearrange the order of
my pictures within one folder. It seems that they can only be shown
chronologically, but sometimes the last picture I upload isn't the
one I want at the top of my folder. I regularly send work-related
people to visit my PN porfolio, so I would like to have the best
presentation possible. thank you for your help.

Hi Maury
With the developper the first agitation should be 30 seconds long, and then 5 seconds every 30 seconds. You'll find these directions in many reliable books, including Ansel Adams'S. Take care.

Fred, good luck tomorrow. I don't have much advice to tell you because I also have my first interview in a major Montréal newspaper tomorrow! I'm so excited, thanks for posting your question, the tips will help me also. Thank you all.

Thank you all for your valuable infos.
Alvin, are you telling that color negatives can be developed in B&W chemicals? Can anybody elaborate on this matter? Thanks.

I found in one of my grand-father's old camera (a Ruberg Futuro) an
exposed colour film. I finished it off by taking pictures of my
family with the camera. It's a 127mm film that must be about 30 or 40
years old. The protective paper is yellow which makes me believe that
the brand must be kodak. It says that it's a colour negative film.
Also there is on the sticky label that keeps the film from unrolling
the following caution note; "this film can only be processed on our
special equipment for triple print process", which is followed by an
address in Toronto.
What should I do to get it processed? Is it a c-41 film? What ASA is
it likely to be? What kind of precautions should I take with it? Do
you think there is any information left on the emulsion of this film?
Thanks for your advices.

I would probably try it with a tungsten film, otherwise you might be disappointed with the yellow dominant in the colored light bulbs.

Thank you all for your responses.I don't personally use TMX myself but I sell it at the photography store where I work. We offer the service of processing b&w films to our clients but we don't process them in our lab. We've been sending those films to another professionnal lab in Montreal. Lately, the TMX films, especially in the 120 format, have come back to us looking very magenta. The prints are very good though. I was wondering if the lab was at fault or if the film had changed recently.Any comments?

Anybody noticed lately that the base(acetate)of the tmax 100 is more
purple than before?
Thanks for your answers.

Hi Richard, thanks for your responding. I was thinking in terms of a B&W crossed-process; I've had very good results in developing color slides in color negative chemicals (C-41)-which is a fairly common practice-, so I was wondering if anybody had experimented with crossed-process techniques with B&W films.

Anybody ever tried to develop agfa scala b&w slide film in regular
b&w negative film chemicals?

Vui, thanks for the input. I developed my Hie last night in ddx for 8 minutes and I liked the results; I thought the grain was much less apparent than in D-76, although I have to say my film was way better exposed this time. I'll try it for an extra 30 seconds next time.
