Hi,
I want to develop kodak infrared HIE and ilford delta 400 in the same
tank, with ilfotec-ddx for 8 minutes. I'm assuming they are
constituted of the same components. Are they really? If they are not,
are they going to contaminate each other? Thanks.

I work in a big photography store in Montreal Canada and am specifically assigned to the tripod and accessories department. Our clients often come in hope of finding a lightweight compact stable versatile and and of course, cheap tripod. I always have to break the news to them; such a tripod doesn't exist. The closest thing to a perfect tripod to me is the gitzo (G2227) explorer tripod made out of carbon fiber. It's a fullsize lightweight very stable tripod with a very versatile column that can allow you to take pictures millimeters from the grounds. But it's not cheap.
Selling tripods to photographers is an interesting way to learn about the infinite variety of ways there is to practice the art of photography. I hear about the fashion shootings in the Sahara desert with many assistants to carry the material, and the kayak expeditions with tripod heads on suction cups installed on the front of the embarcations. There is also the bird lovers who keep miniature tripods in permanence on their window seals, the journalists with their unobtrusive monopods and many more. There might not be a perfect tripod but there is one for every specific need.

Thank you everybody for all the valuable comments. Asking question on this forum is certainly a great way to learn!
PAT, did you use a red filter for this picture?
Anybody can tell me what does a red filter do to the picture (combined with HIE)? does it make it grainier? Thanx.

Bruce, thank you for your valuable info.
Ronald, I DID measure through the filter. Should I first measure the light, than screw on the filter without opening 2 stops? Thanx.
Jay, I used stock d-76 for 9 minutes at about 74 degree farenheit. Is my film overdeveloped? Thanx for commenting.

Hi, I was in Maine last week taking shots by the ocean with Kodak
high speed infrared film (HIE)and a red filter no 25. I followed the
kodak instructions and set the iso at 50. The whole roll is
overexposed. Why do Kodak suggest such a low ISO? Any comments
regarding exposure with Infrared b&w film will be greatly appreciated.<div></div>

Question for those who got scratches from squeegying: how do you know the scratch wasn't from something else like a grain of sand in the camera? Thanks.

I live in Montreal and was out taking pictures at -25 degrees Celcius for two hours and my film DID shatter like glass! My camera was full of little pieces of film. My advice to you is avoid rewinding your film while in the cold and if you can't avoid it, rewind it VERY slowly. Good luck.
