    Twisted

I was interested in discussions on: this technique and thought it might add something to this photo. So my method was:

    duplicate photo

convert duplicate layer to b&w and merge using 'Soft Light'

Then flattened and used extreme USM.

    Finally added some vignette.

In fact that dark edge in the centre can be seen in the original file. It has just been emphasised by darkening the shadows.

I can see this sort of technique could be overdone and be cliched but for now I think/hope it did add something to this photograph.

  1. The lighting, colour all works for me. Skin looks a little overly softened to be natural, ok if you were going for the artificial pure look though.

This photo makes me think of a deer in headlights at night, aww so sweet and innocent;)

    Tin Shed

The smear effect works so well to make this tin shed merge into the landscape, quite literatlly. However I think the image is so strong as a whole the way the colour of the far hillside matches the scrap in the foreground and the green of the roofs match the swash of pines behind. This wasn't just a lucky snap! Well done.

    Catching the Sun

The sun shining through a tree in full autumn colour at Kew Gardens,

London. I used a small aperature (f22) to make the sunburst.

Any comments are welcome and appreciated. Thanks, Lucy

    Bee 2

Aww the bee is camera shy! While that makes a sweet story, I think I'd rather still be able to see the whole of the bee's head, nice and sharp (like the leg is at the moment). Nice soft colours (the lavenders and ambers go nicely together).

I would prefer the focus to be on the front or middle petals of the carnation. Also the red is so saturated that a lot of the detail has been lost.
