I heard that someone at my camera club (I didn't speak to them personally) just got back from a holiday to China. They passed through a hand scanner 7 times and all 32 rolls of film were fogged. Not sure of any other details so treat it as hearsay.

Patrick, thanks for the link to those plug ins. I will give them a go, although the lines aren't as frequent with the latest firmware.
Cheers,
-
Do you have the latest version of the firmware? Minolta fixed up some of this in the latest release. I still occasionally get the lines so I think I use the Median filter (?) in Elements 2.0 which usually clears them up.
Good Luck

If you go to Elizabeth Street in Melbourne you will find several camera shops. A few of them have second hand. There used to be one up the hill (Little Bourke Stree I think?) too. Also have a look in JB Hi Fi (the camera department is close to the corner of Lonsdale Street and Elizabeth Street) - they don't have second hand AFAIK but they are quite cheap.
Good luck and enjoy your stay.

I moved from the Eos50e (ElanIIe) to the 350D (Rebel XT). Largely because of the cost of buying and processing film in Australia.
My concerns were the same as yours. However I have found that getting used to the smaller viewfinder has not been too bad. I read a lot of reviews where people were saying it was almost unusable, so I was prepared for the worst. Of course it wasn't as bad as I was expecting and now I am quite used to it.
The only other minor problems I have with it so far is that adjusting the EV is a little tricky compared to the 50e, and I am not used to hitting the DOF button correctly yet. I imagine after 6 months or so I wont even notice it.

I thought my dog was just camera shy until I switched to manual! Now she is fine. But, she is also much older and going a bit deaf so maybe that's the reason.
She didn't panic though, more she would just turn and keep walking away.

Hi Steven,
If you still have your Nikon lenses you can get an adapter for Canon which will allow you to use them. I don't know how good they are or what limitations there would be.
I am in Australia so not much help with 2nd hand unfortunately.
Good luck.

Hi Eyal,
"1. Sigma 18-50 F/2.8 EX DC - Great wide coverage but a little too short for portraits."
The 50 end equates to 80mm on the XT, which should be good for portraits. Unfortunately I have no experience with this lens but I have read good things.
Good luck.

"So the 5D appears to be real also - don't make sense to create this lens for 1.6X DSLR."
I agree with David. As the owner of a 350D this range doesn't really appeal to me. It makes more sense for film and FF users. I would say the 5D is another step closer to reality ;-)

"Slow indeed, but EF-S lenses are targeted for the lower-end market which couldn't care less"
Some of us do care, but can't afford L glass and FF digital cameras.

Thanks Andy. Damn computers.....

Sorry about the link - just go to the Canon Australia site and go through products, lenses etc. and you will find it.

Now aren't you all glad you don't live here in Australia with those
prices!

I do the same as Ananda (except on a 350D/Rebel XT). Set the AF to the rear * button and specify the centre point only. That way I don't find the AF keeps refocusing all the time. This is Custom Function 4, Option 1 on the 350D.
I had the ECF on my 50e but so far I am not missing it too much (especially ECF DOF which was a real pain - I love having a button for it).

Does anyone have any experience in using an older TTL Flash with the
EOS 350D? I have had a look at the EOS Flash Bible and it doesn't
say a great deal about it.
I don't take a lot of flash photos (I can't really even justify the
cost of a 420EX)so I was thinking of a cheap 3rd party unit (Sigma
etc).
I mainly would want to use it for family type shots but I am after
better results than the on board flash.
Is it worth bothering to get one of these units or should I persist
with the on-board? I am quite happy to experiment if I need to.
Thanks in advance.

Recently in Australia, one of our popular music stars (Kylie Minogue) was treated for breast cancer. The paparazzi being what they are, camped outside of her parents house for days trying to get pics of her going back and forward to hospital. A bunch of her fans got together, donned ski masks and 'egg'ed' the lot of them.
Much less than what they deserve I feel.

I just used some Portra 400UC on night shots in Melbourne, and they came out quite good. I also used Provia which also worked great. You will have a greater margin for error if using print film, so if this is a once in a lifetime thing I would go for print.

Thanks Jean-Baptiste & Bob!

Hi All,
Can anyone tell me what file size you get when you convert the RAW
image to Tiff , when shooting with a Canon 20D?
Thanks.

Also, the original has a Firewire connection whereas I don't believe the II does. I have had the original for about 18 months, and admittedly I am not a heavy user of it but it has been good so far.

Thanks guys. I am only a passenger, but I will definitely pass on the the tip to keep the blue side up!! Yes, it is not a Hang Glider, and I will also have a chance to fly it myself. I think I will just take to P&S and have fun.
Thanks again,
-
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this. My wife gave me a
glider flight for my recent 40th birthday, and I was hoping someone
could help with how to take the best pictures. I have a digital p&s
that I will take, but I will also have my Canon Eos50e (Elan IIe). I
was thinking of just taking my 28-105 with a polarizer and a hood,
as I can't imagine I will want to be too loaded down. Also I was
thinking of a negative film (eg Reala) so I don't need to worry too
much about exposure.
My main aim is to have fun, so I don't want to get too bogged down
trying to take master photos!! Any help appreciated.

You may be able to do a day trip to Meteora on the mainland - well worth it if you get the chance, it is spectacular.
Oh yes, Mythos beer, tzatziki, dolmades and souvlaki - also highly recommended!

Hi Brent,
I noticed the same thing with my FH-M10 yesterday, and found that I hadn't slipped the film strip underneath the two 'holding tabs' (located on frames 2 & 5). This caused the rail to appear warped. Is this something you have looked at? Mine didn't get stuck though.
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Graham
Lens Hood for Rebel XT / 350D 17-55mm Kit Lens?
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted
I just use a cheap rubber lens hood, but I fold back the outer edge (if that makes sense) to stop vignetting.
Have fun with the camera.
