Jeff,
the shot was not staged. This bike was parked there inside Belgrade's fortress. I chose the angle so to include those door and window in the background. I also have another shot with the 50mm but it's basically the same view, just closer to include just the bicycle basically.
Thomas,
This was shot in the open shade (you can see the sun peaking into the scene from a hole in the wall, a few meters behind the bicycle). I agree that some shadow might have added some depth to it.
Thanks to both of you for taking the time to let me know your opinion :)

After one year, a shot of the same place as in this

. Roughly same composition and samelens. Different camera body, different film with Orange filter. What
do you think? :)

Another close-up from the oldies-goldies parade.

Close up on an "oldies goldies" parade, shot right after a brief
thunderstorm.

I have tried playing with my browser's window, to check whether a more square format would have suited this composition better, basically cutting some of the empty space on the right hand.
In the end, I think that your framing is still better. Another winner, very powerful image. On the technical side, I appreciate the DOF the 50/1.4 has produced here.

I keep coming back to this shot... just to remind myself that still life shooting can indeed be rewarding... if one has the taste and "spark" to put together something like this. Very creative and technically sound.

So, what do you think? :)

Everybody, thank you for taking the time to leave a few words of comment.
Mike, I agree with you that the light post seems to "intrude" a bit amongst the trees in the fog. As per your suggestion of decreasing the DOF, I cannot remember correctly but I am quite sure I was already wide open (or almost there), since I was shooting hand-held and the 50 ASA film was at its limits in such a condition. This has also been the first time for me to photograph the fog, so I rushed out to the park nearby without taking the tripod fearing that the mist would have disapperead soon. And it did happen!

John, this IS a great shot!
There's some kind of "triangle of interest" going on here, created the two men and the woman (agree with the classical look of those crossed legs as mentioned by a previous poster). Each of them has a different level of "awareness" of your presence: one is standing and looking straight at you; the woman has maybe noticed you but she does not care that much, she's too busy now. And the old man in the center, well, how could anybody care less than him?!?
A perfect story, this could easily be the shot of a master.

Ah, very well seen! I could easily hang something like this in my living room... Bravo!

"it's actually from 2005"
Ouch, which time zone do you leave in, John?!?! :P
All has been said about the scale. I wonder whether a crop closer to the 35mm aspect ratio would have made this shot a bit more balanced. Nice, anyway.

The results are worth the effort and repeated trip on top of the chopper! The very fact that the horizon is straight is just as amazing (well, I've never flewn on a helicopter, so I have no idea how stable it can be...).
We'll see the colour then!

I like the gray tones both in the subject and his surroundings: good job to nail this exposure.
