    Green Field

          22

For this shot I first took an image without the IR filter. Then keeping the aperture and focus (had it locked after the ist shot) the same, went to manual exposure and bracketed around 1 second with a Hoya R72 IR filter on. WB manually set to the bright green grass for the IR shot.

In PS I adjusted the color of the IR shot with a Channel Mixer adjustment and then pasted the IR version over the normally colored image. Then I erased or masked out the grassy portion of the IR layer, leaving the green grass of the normal photo showing. So, basically it's a composite of a normal image and an IR image.

    I hope this helps some.

  1. I guess I don't understand the relatively high ratings and high praise for this and several other recent postings by this photographer. As I write this, this image has already received six ratings of 7 for aethetics and a bunch of double 7s! That's as good a rating as a photo can get. I don't see how this particular image could ever be rated as even average. If I had posted it, I'm quite sure it would barely get 10 ratings and they would be much lower than this and without any praise. I understand that Maria simply submitted this one as a "snapshot" (which it is) and there is nothing wrong with submitting these sort of low quality images. But, the high praise this photo has received doesn't make any sense. Those who have been heaping this high praise on images like this one are doing Maria and the Photo.net community a disservice by not being more critical and honest. If anyone is really dying to heap praise on mediocre images please feel free to visit my site. My morale could use the boost after a lot of hard work on recent photos that have not been as well received as this snapshot of a cow standing in the dirt.

None of this is meant to slight the abilities of Maria, I'm saying nothing of her skill as a photographer. But, wherever she is on the ability scale, she'll never improve if she's left with the impression that the PN community thinks this and other shots like it are masterpieces. Sorry to rant, time to go take more photos. Cheers.

Wow. I just saw this today. Very nice. My mountain bike shot you saw was done the same way. I took 2 photos and then worked them together in Photoshop. Nicely done here.
