Very fun image. A real Gulliver's travels feel to this. The shadows are fine. Too indistinct/soft to determine whether they are exact shadows or not, so they seem fine. The animal rights people might come after you, better put in a disclaimer that "no animals were harmed during the filming of this picture" :) John.

Hi Bee, This was taken in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Thanks for the interest. John.

Nice setting, but in most cases the horizon line should not be splitting the image. You might also consider a graduated ND filter that would allow you to increase exposure time for a little added shadow detail and still maintain proper sky exposure.

Good subject with lots of life reflected in the face. A small distraction is the highlight in his left eye and the brightness of the background just beyond his ears. Getting past those points, this would be a great photo to hang on the wall.

Great colors and good exposure on the clock. My eye does get drawn to the small antenna on the right, so you might consider cropping or cloning it out.

Lou Ann, This photo reminds me of simpler youthful times, when great joy was available by simply taking a toad and holding it in front of my sister's face and laughing as she ran screaming into the house. I guess I've always been one of "those". Truly I thank you for posting this as it has caused me to reflect on truly wonderful times at a very appropriate time of year for reminiscence. :) John.

Hi Lou Ann,
The first thing to learn about frogs is that this is a toad. Rougher skin, broader appearance and much happier on land than water. Doesn't change the picture or the sentiment, but sometimes I can't help but be a pain in the ________. Happy New Year. John :)

Michael, thanks for X-Mas wishes and I return them. I also look forward further interesting conversations and contests.
Donald, the snow will go, but I don't mind that as much as I do the ice and freezing winds. Those will also take a hiatus in about three months. In the meantime keep working on summer photos to keep your spirits up. In the meantime I will shoot some winter scenes to post this Summer, when we could use the cold of winter . :)

Unfortunately I have to agree with Michael that I owe him a duck dinner on my next visit to Montreal. Since I have never had a bad meal in Montreal this will be a true pleasure to pay this debt. Since I also want to revisit Jardin Botanique it will have to wait until Summer, but I won't forget. :)

Pitman and Michael, if the rest of the world will stop for just a moment the three of us can probably choke this thread with so many duck pictures that Michael will be banned from the site. Fair warning, my barrage will commence tonight.

I think you are wrong about running out of Duck pictures.

My guess would be a fanatical supporter of the "Equal Rights Amendment", however after seeing Blagoy's and Peter's guesses I would say the idea stemmed from either one or a combination of those sources. An image that makes you think about what message it sends and is interpreted slightly differently by each individual. I can't think of anyone that wouldn't be thrilled with that as a result.

Thought provoking image and description. Classic Hugh Hill. Can't wait for the book.
