One from the southwest series. A fun place to do abstracts.
Suggestions?

Shot in the overrun Upper Antelope Canyon. I suppose I was adding to
the numbers too. Don't take any of the trips to Upper Antelope out
of Page. Just drive to the entrance and pay the local folks to take
you down the riverbed to the entrance. Time is very limited there.
A photo tour means you can stay a couple hours. Most tours out of
page that are advertised as 90 minutes to 2 hours but give you about
50 minutes in this slot canyon.

Self - Portrait? I like the shot. Eyes are a little burned out in the jpeg posted.

This is very busy. To much going on wnad no focal point / center of focus in the image. It is a pretty area but the beauty is not well conveyed in this shot.

Thanks! I will correct it. It is a multiply gradient burn to darken the sky. Looks like I need to do a little more hand burning on it. I'll post a new one soon.

These pictures are actually a lot of fun to find and shoot. A great
way to spend a second morning in Monument Valley after seeing the
wonderful landscapes. Take a look ath the other ones and tell me why
you like/dislike this one over the other ones. Thanks for your
comments!

Inspired by the POW (http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2254708)
I just need to get this shot out of my system so I can go work on others. ;-)

Hi Fabian. Can you send me a URL to that photo. I have marked you as interesting as I want to go back and spend sometime with your oriental images.

Number 2...more to come. Please comment. How does this comapre to
the other one(s). Thanks!

I like this composition a lot. The tripod takes away from this a little bit. Great job on DOF. Thanks for viewing my stuff. Concerning frames - All my work is displayed if frames or matted so that's why I have frames. :-) Keep up the good work!

Remember to look down when you're in majestic places like Monument
Valley. Comments are very welcome. There are a few of these I will
be posting. Thanks!

Hi Hugh, This one doesn't work for me in color or B/W. The ped's hand is oddly attached to the other fellow's head. This looks more like a mistake to me. Of course, I know you know better so this is the desired effect. I thought maybe a tighter crop to eliminate all but the left side of the pedestrian (crop off his shoe and half his pant leg) and it might be a more dramatic composition but I still don't like the hand on the guys head. Cheers!

Do you like this? Yes? No? What would you change?

I thought it was a nude at first. I don't think the vignette is an issue. Congrats on getting noticed and POW'ed.

See the technical notes. The first version of this is posted at http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=2387428
Here is the picture so you can see both on the same page

Thanks rebecca, That stream is the Colorado River :-) Look for the two people on the bridge to get some scale.
Hi Krista, Please calibrate your monitor for at least proper contract and brightness. This image as shot a sunset. Look at the red on the distant mountains as there are shadows about a 1/3 of the way up on them. The sun is setting to the far left. hence the lighting on the steel. In the print there is significant shadow detail on left canyon wall but it is very dark to black on poor monitors - I know as I have a couple of those. :-)

This is a wonderful picture. Expression, originality, color (Muted), and I have to agree with an earlier comment about the kids not caring about the weather. Good timing and a fine job of capturing the moment. 6/6

Go get some ND filters for doing these shots and get out in the early morning/evening and add even more to shots like this. This is a very good and solid shot.

Both versions are good. Great example of what cropping can do. The original version shows more environment and the framing with the window is nice in the original. Z's version is good for a oriental online diet site advert. :-) They both have a place.
Desert View, Grand Canyon
in Nature
Posted
I spent a few days at the Grand Canyon as part of a Southwest trip.
The canyon is big. Very big. So big that I find it very difficult to
find a different shot, from the rim, that is different from the ones
I've seen in the travel books, and all the snapshots I've seen too.
Is framing the subject with a window cliche?
