Hello all -- I switched to XP-2 a while back because it was so much
easier to scan than TMY, but a lab tech told me the Kodak chromogenic
films are easier on the automated equipment, and yield the best result
with say a Frontier.
I'm almost wondering whether I should not shoot XP-2 for my stuff,
which might end up being printed on the trusty B-22, and 400CN for
weddings.
Any thoughts?
He also noted that they have bar codes for print numbering, but that's
not a major consideration, though it would be nice to have the frames
numbered in the index print the way the color ones are.

Tell your model not to bathe for a couple of days before the shoot.

Someone recently had a great anbecdote about having a Speedlight (?) bounce noisily all the way down the choir loft steps right in the middle of the service. Nice.

My local Costco will allow you to state "no changes." They don't always actually do it, but in principle they agree to. That's for enlargements.

What Dan said. Lots of stuff plus rentals, lighting, etc.
Plus they're friendlier than the Penn folks at some of the other locations. Pete especially.
Plus they're convenient to the Austin Grill.
Hey I might just head down there now come to think of it!

Still waiting for the following people to acknowledge their hysterical reaction to a notice of PROPOSED rulemaking.

Terrorists are winning.
Eddie Chan, may 21, 2004; 03:33 p.m.
If this type of thing continues, no picture taking will be allowed in airports, stadiums, Disney, etc..., and any one with a camera at public places will have his/her name in the database of the terrist suspects.

Fascism. Is this too strong a word? And when should we stop it? ....;)...J

[...] soon they will take away trash-cans and USPS/Fed-Ex/UPS mail-boxes.
...and many many others....

Gosh I guess 1984 isn't getting closer after all.
Stand by for a torrent of postings by people acknowledging that they overreacted to the notice of proposed rulemaking.
Or maybe not.

All, thanks these answers are really helpful.

I have been using Nikon speedlight strobes (two, loaded with NiMH
batteries) with Sto-fen omnibounce (I know, I know, some people think
they're quackery) with occasional mounting on a Stroboframe, e.g., for
processionals.
I know a lot of PN contributors use the auxilliary flash pack. I'm
assuming they also use high-power flash units, but thought I'd ask if
there is any conceivable benefit to a Speedlight user switching to
Quantum. Thanks.

I'm with Daniel. I have never had a problem after hundreds of rolls, except one lost roll. Kodak's mailer E-6 is now done by District Photo near D.C. -- they have a terrible rep in this area, but I have not had a problem.

I have owned the 1.4 AIS and the 1.8 AF-D. Both are superb.
In terms of construction, the 1.8 is a nasty piece of junk and an affront to everything that is Nikon, but hey, it was $89 from B&H and I only use it for the apres-wedding-service family formals, and it's perfect for that (I use film).
-
I ahve an F-4 and two Nikon F-4s. I find that I can travel with both camera as long as lenses are detached, but it's hard to have more than one lens on at a time when in shooting mode, unless I sort of set one camera on top facing down.
Greta bag though.
-
What's (sniff sniff) wrong with citing an eBay action? Heaven forbid we should try to help one another here.
-
I have three F-4s and the old beaters are *much* louder than the new one.
-
I like dil H because I use the 8-reel tank and it's just easier to have a long development time and not have to worry about uneven development (the bottom reel develops for maybe 30 seconds longer than the top reel).
-
That's a scream. Hey, try translating it back into Spanish and see what you get.
-
I would bring a 28 f 2.0 and an 85 1.8 -- less conspicuous, better image quality, and faster.
-
I toook my F-4s to Strauss Photo Repair in Washington, D.C. where they
get $180 for a full CLA. I asked what that included and got a verbal
list of things like shutter adjustment, metering calibration etc.
Does $180 sound like the right ballpark re price? Last time I had
this done I think I paid less than $100, but that guy retired.

America is a hollow consumer-oriented society. Pursuit of happiness is all about pursuit of merchandise. Blah blah blah.
-
Nicolas, sorry but as a rube American, or 'Murican, as we like to say, I'm having trouble deciphering your meaning.
We know your cinema is far deeper than anything we could ever produce, if that's what this is about.

Randall, thanks for being so brave with Claudio's film. -

That is *terrible* advice.
The problem is, you don't know who has what x-ray technology and it's very risky to rely on one anecdote from a different part of the continent when the downside is so ghastly. Some CIS airports have an x-ray screener as you enter the airport, before even going through the usual security procedures.
This machine may look quite different from the one you are used to seeing Stateside. More importantly, it may behave differently. Hard to know. Which is sort of the point.
-
I would give it a shot.
The Mamiya 7 is a neat camera too, but should be known as the Texas Diana instead of the Texas Leica for build quality.

Barring info to the contrary, be very afraid of xray machines in former Soviet republics. The ones they use in Egypt would cook a raw potato.
Now the 10D is even dirtier...
