James, this is sweet, great light and very monochromatic, but - crop even tighter - really tight to get rid of the bright top part of the spot light - I promise you it'll really improve the intensity of this!!! Good to see you on Grassrootsx.com too, by the way! Neil
-
this is better and good action, well lit etc. Your camera lets you down though - its either over sharpened or simply not a high enough resolution but its a good capture.
-
again it doesn't look razor sharp...
-
focus looks soft but the scene is well metered. Taken from the front row or pit?
-
are these guys still going?!?! Well lit and good record shot to include whole band but I presume if you were in the pit you got much better individual shots?
-
its a bit too contrasty - and you cant see the performer's face at all which is a shame.
-
odd crop which doesn't work. Go for a tight crop on the singer I think...
-
nice moment Simon, and very good lighting...Neil

all thoughts welcome...

All thoughts welcome! Cheers, Neil

All thoughts? Ta, Neil
-
If you're rating 3's or 7's, please tell me why!! It all helps!!
-
Ideally he'd have turned to the crowd to do this, but he didn't, so
here it is!! All thoughts appreciated!! Cheers, Neil
-
all thoughts please!!!!
-
Hi Charles, thanks. No, I was very pleased with this neg - it needed virtually no editing at all - that's pretty much the raw scan...
-
Please critique! Thanks, Neil

good timing and lighting. Its a rare example of empty black space adding to not detracting from the shot. Plus she looks very cute - have they ever played in London!? ;-) Just a slight shame so much of her face is obscured by hair. Was this available light or did you add some fill flash?
-
very unusual for a band portrait. With the guy on the right NOT looking at the lens its very powerful even though it breaks the (often) golden rule of getting eye contact. The only thing that distracts on this for me is his very out of focus collar in the bottom right.
-
thoughts everyone!? Comments only please. Thanks, Neil
-
even with those wacky coloured bits you could still crop out a lot of the black and keep a 6x4 shape. Unusual.
-
have you tried this in black and white? I like it - try boosting the contrast further though and may a tighter left crop too - there's something I really like about this.
-
the right hand highlights of the main performer are blown, apart from that, not bad.
-
its a bit different - not sure how you've got the background colour. I hate the frame though - it detracts from the photo and is a waste of your time doing, hence lower aesthetics rating.
-
focus looks soft but then again I've been to the Bull and Gate and I know how dark it is in there. The shadow across the face needed a blip of fill flash, which, in that venue you could have used unrestricted.
