another well exposed, sharp photo but why cut virtually all of both hands off a guitarist!? It doesn't make sense...hence the lower rating.
-
very odd crop and your highlights are a bit blown, but the right idea.
-
shame the performer's face doesn't look pin sharp and he looks as bored as hell.
-
being outdoors it suffers from a distracting background and dull lighting - neither your fault. I'd have preferred to shoot a much tighter crop of this - ie miss out the headstock of the guitar altogether and have shot it a fraction of a second earlier so that on a 6x4 shape crop, you could still get the right hand in.
-
too much empty space at the top, even with the totally over-the-top notice...yes have one, but make it discreet!
-
good shutter / timing. Shame your position isn't great. You could still crop this a lot to make a better composition.
-
as you've chosen to focus on the hand, you needed to use a wider aperture, say f/2.8 to throw the face more out of focus. As it is, it looks like focusing on the hand was a mistake, which I know it wasn't.
-
nice idea, wrong moment.
-
needs more contrast.
-
taken at an outdoor festival from the photo pit on a 70-200 f/2.8.
Personally I like the intensity of the close crop and the movement in
his hair and fingers - please let me know your thoughts.
For those people who always give ridiculously low ratings for concert
shots, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT!!!

please critique from a concert photography perspective... thanks, Neil

An ND filter simply would be counter productive! This was shot on a 70-200 f/2.8 with a 2x TC handheld from the pit - you're not allowed monopods in, so handholding anything below, probably 1/250 would result in camera shake. Given its a daytime shot I'm pleased with the result.

Dave Mustaine of Megadeth in their last ever UK show. Please only
critique from a concert photography perspective! Shot outdoors in
daylight at the Download Festival, so no opportunity for dynamic
lighting... Cheers, Neil

horrendous pixellation! How was this shot!?!?
-
classic pose but shame the face is almost totally obscured in the background.
-
save for the distracting kit back left this could be a good studio portrait. (and the blown highlights on the cymbal he's hitting)
-
cool shot but get the curve levels down and the contrast adn saturation up to give the dull tones some vibrancy!
-
wow - how did you get the exposure right for this!??! The crop sadly is wrong - a portrait crop getting rid of all the space on the right, and some of the flames on the left (though not much) would really intensify the shot.
-
timing and focus spot on. For my taste though you need more of the guitar in. As a slightly more abstract shot though it works well.
-
decent timing but under exposed. Easily remedied in PS with curves and extra contrast and saturation.
-
covent garden I presume? needs more surroundings to really work as a travel shot.
-
good close up study, but needs a microphone in there to work as a live shot.
-
well seen, this is good.

JT are still going? Focus on the face looks soft to me...
mellee mellow crew
