I've found that 200-300 DPI works well in the final print. So if you're shooting for an 11x14, you will need a file size of about 4 MB. If you scan a 35 mm slide at 4000 dpi, you'll have more than enough resolution. -
It's a nice first shot - but... Did you use the same focal length to shoot the buildings? Somehow the moon seems unnaturally large. Alternately, the buildings are unusually small :). Keep it up

The lighting is a bit harsh. Perhaps using some scrim to shade the flower or diffuse the light would have been effective. -
