Florida: Key West: Butterfly Conservatory

fred_j._lord

My first trip into a butterfly conservatory even though we have one here in Denver. There were so many exotics that I couldn't even begin to identify most. We especially liked the green markings on this one. I used on-camera flash with this particular insect.

a well made shot. Good DOF. The greens in the background perfectly complement the colors on the butterfly. I would have prefered a slightly rotated composition, where the leading edges of the two wings form a diagonal across the frame. But well done nonetheless.

Very nice DOF. The monochromatic look to this shot works very well. I am impressed with the detail captured, excellent shot. I would suggest a frame for better presentation though.

This image was made using on-camera flash so the light is accurate. I did nothing to the color balance since there basically are no neutrals anywhere in the image to balance by.

Spectacular Fred. Great subject and great capture. Having never seen one like that it's easy to see why people don't believe the color.

I guess you enjoyed the warm weather while you were down there?

I hope to do better at our local butterfly house than I did last year with the new lens.

Green on green is just amazing when it works. Somehow the green of the background brings out the green of the butterfly as a contrasting color would not. But I do agree that if it were actually moving it would be better. See Harry Potter for advice on how to do that.

It was warm in Key West but the breezes were pleasant. First full day back in Denver it was hot! Sunday morning we drove up to our house in the mountains and went through a whiteout blizzard at 11,000 feet. Aaaah Colorado. Lovely day today but the smoke from Russia hung about all day and made it a bit hazy here.
