Vlad, the reds are from real light but not from a candle. Purists might point out that the candle would have given a different type of reflection ;-(

Please critique.

Evokes a vivid image of winter, upcoming spring, and changes of seasons.

My first thought was that the photo is a little bit too soft (of course, jpeg compression or scanning could be the reason). But then I noticed that it does have plenty of detail and creates the mood very well. The colors and composition all work together to depict not so friendly yet beautiful environment.

Interesting idea. Good composition and cropping. Different sizes of the wrenches create a feel of perspective.

Thanks for the comment. These are two leaves. I have another photo of them differently composed and without alterations.

Comments and ratings appreciated.

Nice tones and colors. Perfect timing with just the right amount of the red sun shining through the trees. The jet adds a nice touch and seems to change the mood of the photo.

Perfect cropping. Slightly off center perspective creates beautiful composition.

Vlad, thanks for the comment.
Yes, the beauty of this forum is that the photos are open to everyone's critique and ratings. I agree that subjective ratings are easy to weed out.
I do feel that there are some problems with this photo and the average rating might tell how severe they are.

Beautiful textures, fantastic composition.

Thank you all for the comments. I am glad your perception matches my intention. This is indeed one of the photos that reflect my experiments with colors and shapes. Nickolay

Fuzziness of this image is entirely an optical feature of a single element lens. It does give a distinctive type of fuzziness that can be distinguished from "camera shake" and, perhaps, from majority of digital unsharp effects. I made my singlet lens after reading some book about this technique. I simply took apart an inexpensive pentax screw mount lense and removed all optical elements except one that had approximately 50 mm focal distance.

Very nice gradation of tones, colors, plus interesting textures in the background.
Excellent work!

Details, tones and colors are very eye pleasing.

Thank you all for the comments. In response to Sal's comment, I have corrected the dark spot on the left (the edge of another leaf overlooked in the original photo) and uploaded this corrected image.

I think there is a nice balance between the snow and the wood and the diagonal composition of this photo is eye pleasing. The subject is less ussual than in many other winter photos, which makes this one very original. Nickolay

Thank you all for the input.
I knew that a thumbnail image of this photo would look rather misleading but I thought the subject was recognizable in the medium and large versions.
BTW, the original, unaltered photo can be found in my folder.

Very tight cropping seems to work well here. Attention is drawn to the windows. My sight is trying to find some space around the windows but there is no escape and my attention is drawn to the details in the windows again and again. The wolrd surrounding the monastery is seen through the shadow of the tree...
Excellent photo.
