Hello Nikonians,

Yesterday we celebrated "Sant Jordi" (Saint George) here in Catalonia, when tipically the girls are given a rose, and the men are gifted with a book (because of the more recent mixing with the international day of the book). The rose is always given together with a spike of wheat, as a symbol of fertility, and the catalan flag. Every year, I do another take of the rose I give to my wife, and this year I took the symbolic wheat a little further and made it into bread. I guess this is called evolution :-)

I'm more of a reader than a poster in this forum, and I always read Nadine's post with great interest - always spot-on and about the best advise one could find around here. I will certainly miss her presence.

And one from the inside. We had to wait patiently between groups of tourists until the room was more or less empty to be able to take a shot.

This week we went visiting an old monastery here in Catalonia. I made this picture subexposing deliberately by five or so stops to add more drama.

I hadn't been able to take a lot of pictures lately, so it's good to be back! This week I was actually assisting a shoot from a friend of mine, but I did take a few snaps with my camera too.

A few friends and I got out of bed very early to find out whether the rumours are true that there's also a short period of good light in the middle of the night, like 6:15 AM. It turned out to be true :-)

I had a similar problem with my D90, until I updated my version of Lightroom, which uses the same Camera Raw engine as Photoshop. You can check this easily if you shoot a jpeg and a raw file (I'm not sure if your camera can do that at once) of the same scene. In my case, the jpeg was fine, while the raw image was rendered as underexposed. Updating LR did the trick for me.

Happy wednesday to all!

Rick Dohme, I love what you did to that birdie.

I've been playing with a flower again, clipped to a lightstand and shot with my D90 and Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, and a SB-80DX through a softbox triggered optically with an SB-600.

Nice pictures of illegal logging as well. That's why I support groups like Avaaz and others.

Happy Wednesday y'all!!

Last monday we celebrated Sant Jordi (San Jorge, Saint George), Catalonia's patron. Traditionally, a rose is given to the woman you love. The legend says that a red rose grew from the blood of the dragon that Saint George killed to rescue the princess.

Men are gifted a book, as the day coincides with the worldwide literature day. All the streets in Catalonia are filled that day with colourful stands selling books and roses.

It's a flash extender. It will focus the beam sort of like a fresnel lens to extend the reach of the flash.
