1. There is a personal ad in our local paper for Leica II (d) with with 50mm #.5 Elmar lens made in 1934 and an adjutable Elmar hood - all for $700.00 I wonder if I should look into that but the lens sound pretty slow for my taste but that's the way they were probably made in 1934.
  2. Jay - yes I did not think it through 100% but I know 2 things: I have SLR's (Konica and Canon) that I don't plan on abandoning so getting a rangefinder will add more variety to my photography hobby. After all so many people stiill swear by it it's not like switching to pinhole camera. Second I would like to ue the camera a my compact/take everywhere camera. I lug two bags of camera in my car most of the time but being able to put something special in my pocket would be a pleaure. In't 2.0 too slow? I find I have to go about 1.4 indoors for candids.Rb
  3. Rangefinder or SLR ? - I don't care. Since I haven't used a rangefinder I would not mind having one just to enhance that experience.

Why not batteries? - I know I can take them out and I might change my mind about this but I use old Konica T1 cameras without the batteries and it still irks me that there is an ON button that I do not turn on. :-) I know this sounds kind of weird but we all have our 'special ways'...

  4. I would like to set a target for purchasing a Leica outfit and your

advice is greatly appreciated. Here is what I think I want:

1.) No batteries in the body. That probably means no metering and

    I'm fine with that.

2.) All metal parts and hopefully the most durable and least prone

    to breakdowns

3.) Ability to take the best 'standard' lens Leica made

4.) What is the best 'standard' lens Leica made?

    Thanks for your help.

  5. The 35mm/2.0 is a great lens. Very light, portable, practical, sharp and fast. I use the lens on my D30. Last summer I took the camera nd the lens on a 3 day hike through the Alps along with my 50/1.8. I took 99% of the pictures with the 35/2.0. Check out my
Steinerness

    Meer
presentation to see how the lens performed.

I do like the suggestion for a 28mm length but if I choose to go that route I would choose 28mm/1.8 instead.

  6. I seem to distinctly remember very nice birch trees on the Kangamangus(sp) highway in New Hampshire. You may want to try there. If you want more intimate locations in Maine then these would get you started:

Angel Falls in Byron (bring the widest lens you have and of course your tripod)

    Rapid River

    Lobster Stream and Lobster Lake

West River of Penobscott between Ripogenous Dam and the Big Eddy

Caribou Pond off the Caribou Valley Road between Sugarloaf and Crocker Cirque

    Mt.Kineo area in Rockwood

Hike the Penobscott and Sargent Mountain range in Acadia National Park

    Skip Gulf Hagas

  7. A while ago a post encouraged supporting photo.net by subscribing

and I said that I would do it if we had a forum for Konica cameras.

I sort of got my way with the creation of this forum. I'm still

thankfull and today I have made the plunge. It is money well spent.

I am on this web site almost every day.

  8. Giampiero,You are right. At 10K cost for the 10Ds it is more worth to either get the 10D or better yet keep the D30 (which is what I'm going to do) but I expect the prices for a full frame SLR to change dramatically within 2 years or less. So with that in mind I was wondering whether I should plan on getting a 300/2.8 or save the money for a full frame Canon SLR when the right time comes. By keeping the current lenses, shoot at 11mp and crop the excess to achieve same or better results during hockey shots. Of course thw bennies come when I use the camera for nature shots at full 11mp potential.
  9. Chuck, yes I shoot when the action is in my end of the rink and the 135 is more than enough. The 200mm was to get face better expressions during the battles close to the boards. I find that I need to run ISO 800 with shutter speed of at least 250 to get decent action shots at f stop 2.0 or 2.5 Now to the actual question - I think that you answered it. :-)
  10. I have a D30 and the largest telephoto in my arsenal is about to become a 200mm 2.8 lens. I shoot mostly hockey although whenever I can I get out to shoot nature shots. The 135mm 2.0 is enough with the aid of the 1.6 crop factor but I see it inevitable that I will get a full sensor body when I woll be able to afford it. My question is with 1Ds or any future 11megapixel full sensor camera. Could I theoretically keep the 135mm on a 1Ds, shoot the action at 11mp, crop the image similar to 1.6 crop factor and still expect an image equal to my 3mp print I get from a D30?
  11. I was on top of Mt Washington last week and the grass was already turned rusty. Check out my not so good picture in the Konica T1 folder.Along the i95 corridor you can see a few early turners from Portsmouth to Brunswick. (I'm typing while driving!). The mood is definitely set and it should be in full swing in two weeks. In Maine try taking rt 201 west towards Jackman then go north towards Rockwood and east to Greenville. Then head north again towards Kokadjo and the Golden Road and swing eastward towards Millinockett where you get on 95 again and head back south 'home'
  12. Thanks for the tips everyone. I have two T1 Konicas and think that one of them 'acting up'. Because I use them interchangeably I seem to be confused which one it is. The pictures out of this one did not come out particularly well with few exeptions while the other one produces better. I'll find out next week after I get my rolls finished and developed.
